The class action settlement resolves allegations that Citizens Bank placed unwanted calls to cell phones without obtaining prior express consent.

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act was enacted to keep consumers safe from companies who place unsolicited calls or texts without having any kind of business relationship with the call recipient.

Citizens Bank denied the allegations but agreed to pay $4.5 million to avoid the ongoing cost and risk associated with further litigation.

Class Members included “all persons in the United States who received a call on their cellular telephones from Citizens or any third parties calling on a Citizens account made with an alleged automatic telephone dialing system (‘ATDS’) and/or an artificial or pre-recorded voice from December 20, 2009, through July 31, 2015.”

The deadline to file a claim for the Citizens Bank class action settlement passed on Oct. 27, 2016.
