ski resortTop Class Actions viewers are starting to receive checks in the mail from a class action settlement that accused Shell of misleading customers with promises of a “free” ski lift ticket with the purchase of 10 gallons of gas.

According to reader comments and posts on the Top Class Actions Facebook page, Class Members who submitted timely and valid claims for the Shell class action settlement began receiving checks worth as much as $40 on Dec. 17, 2016.

If you filed a claim for the Shell ski free settlement, keep an eye on your mailbox because checks are on their way!

The class action settlement resolves allegations that certain Shell stations led a “ski free” promotion which advertised a free lift ticket with the purchase of 10 gallons of fuel.

However, Shell customers claimed that instead of a “free” ticket, they were handed a buy one, get one free voucher that was subject to restrictions.

The Shell class action lawsuit claimed customers were misled by the “ski free” promotion as none of the advertising materials contained information that it was a BOGO offer.

Equilon Enterprises LLC d/b/a Shell Oil Products US denied the allegations but agreed to pay $2.2 million to settle the class action and avoid the expense and uncertainty of further litigation.

Class Members included all Shell customers within the states of California, Michigan, Oregon, and Washington who bought 10 (or more) gallons of gas and received a Ski Free voucher between Nov. 1, 2009 and Oct. 25, 2016.

The deadline to file a claim for the Shell ski lift ticket settlement passed on Oct. 25, 2016.

    Ridiculous. The voucher clearly read buy in get one free. You all need gas anyway. Now it looks like they aren’t doing it at all this year!
