Actos side effectsSeventeen named individuals have filed a bundled Actos lawsuit and joined the Actos MDL accusing Actos maker Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly and Company for failing to adequately inform consumers and the medical community about the risk of bladder cancer associated with taking the type-2 diabetes drug, Actos.

Of the 17 plaintiffs, four filed their Actos bladder cancer lawsuits on behalf of their deceased loved ones who took Actos and developed bladder cancer. Five plaintiffs have been diagnosed with bladder cancer and three plaintiffs are suffering a recurrence of their bladder cancer. The remaining five plaintiffs are spouses of the Actos users.

All 17 plaintiffs similarly allege that they or their loved ones took the prescription drug Actos to treat type-2 diabetes and all collectively claim that as a result of Actos side effects, they or their loved ones subsequently developed bladder cancer.

The Actos bladder cancer lawsuit further alleges that the pharmaceutical companies concealed their knowledge that Actos can cause bladder cancer and did not disclose that data linking Actos to bladder cancer was reported in both Actos animal studies and human clinical trials as early as 1999.

Actos Bladder Cancer

Actos was marketed as an effective type-2 diabetes medication when it was first introduced in the early 2000s. Offering a way to control blood glucose levels without the risk of serious side effects, Actos was welcomed by the medical community as well as patients looking for a medication to ease the symptoms of what is a difficult condition. However, Actos is allegedly linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer.

The potential risk of Actos bladder cancer problems is now being reviewed by health regulators in the United States and other countries throughout the world.

Possible signs or symptoms of Actos bladder cancer may include:

  • Blood in the urine
  • Pain during urination
  • Frequent urination
  • Feeling of need to urinate without results

Although it appears that information about the risk of Actos cancer problems has been known to the manufacturer for some time, allegedly inadequate warnings were provided to consumers and the medical community.

Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuits

Several Actos bladder cancer lawsuits against Takeda have been filed by people who took Actos and later developed bladder cancer, alleging that Takeda failed to warn them about the risks associated with the medication.

According to this Actos lawsuit, the plaintiffs are seeking actual, treble, and punitive damages for Takeda’s actions by allegedly placing its desire for profits ahead of patient safety and failing to adequately warn about the potential risk of Actos bladder cancer.

The Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuit joins the Actos MDL In re: Actos Product Liability Litigation, Case No: 6:11-md-02299, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.
