Weis ice cream cookies and cream has been recalled.

Ice cream lovers, watch out! The maker of Weis Ice Cream has issued a recall on its product because of a possible metal contamination.

Weis Markets, a mid Atlantic grocery store chain issued a recall on 10,869 containers of Weis Quality Cookies and Cream (48 oz.) and 502 bulk containers of Klein’s Vanilla Dairy Ice Cream (3 gallon) following claims that the product may be contaminated with metal filing equipment parts.

So far one customer has reported finding a piece of metal in the Weis Quality Cookies and Cream (48 oz.). Weis does not face legal action over the metal shards, but Top Class Actions tracks recalls because they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Exposure to, and consuming pieces of metal unintentionally may present a choking hazard, according to the FDA. Children and minors are especially at high-risk, as they may not show any immediate symptoms of choking and could be prone to developing pneumonia, Healthline reports.

Individuals who purchased the Weis Quality Cookies and Cream with UPC code 041497-01253 and a sell-by date of 10/28/2021 are advised to not consume the product, and either discard it immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The Klein’s Vanilla Bulk ice cream was not available for retail sale, being sold to one vendor in New York and has since been removed.

This is not the first time that consumers have been sold contaminated ice cream. In a recent class action lawsuit Dove was sued under claims its ice cream bars contain an unexpected ingredient – vegetable oil.

If you believe you have been adversely affected by the product, seek medical attention immediately. You can also notify the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program via an online form, phone or fax.
