Over 100 transvaginal mesh lawsuits were recently settled in West Virginia. The complaints, consolidated into a transvaginal mesh MDL, were filed against American Medical Systems, a manufacturer of transvaginal mesh, bladder slings, and other products.
Each transvaginal mesh lawsuit plaintiff involved in the MDL was included in the settlement agreement, and all complaints were removed from the active docket. American Medical Systems was given until April 30, 2016 to submit any motions to dismiss with prejudice. The court indicated that if any plaintiff is not satisfied with the transvaginal mesh settlement, the court will reinstate the case to the active docket if the party shows good cause for reinstatement.
Transvaginal Mesh Complications
Many women have used transvaginal mesh to treat pelvic organ prolapse. Other products such as vaginal slings, bladder slings, and vaginal mesh have been implanted as well. However, many women have experienced severe transvaginal mesh complications such as pain during sex, reoccurrence of pelvic organ prolapse, and infection. These side effects have caused many women to require the removal of their transvaginal mesh.
In fact, it has been suggested that transvaginal mesh products are not actually successful in treating pelvic organ prolapse, the condition they were designed to treat. This could mean that women have been needlessly putting themselves at risk of experiencing painful complications without any benefit.
Transvaginal mesh complications can be extremely painful and expensive to treat. As a result, thousands of women have filed transvaginal mesh lawsuits against manufacturers such as American Medical Systems, Bard, Boston Scientific, Ethicon, and others. These companies have already paid millions in awards and settlements for the pain and suffering caused by their products, in addition to paying for medical expenses (including transvaginal mesh removal, which is often required), missed work, and other damages.
Wrongful death lawsuits may be filed if transvaginal mesh complications caused a patient to die. Additionally, the spouse of a transvaginal mesh user may join in the vaginal mesh lawsuit and file for loss of consortium if the product caused them to lose intimacy with their spouse.
If you have experienced the following transvaginal mesh complications, you may be entitled to compensation:
- Pain during sex
- Urinary problems
- Multiple occurrences of pelvic organ prolapse
- Vaginal scarring
- Perforated bladder, perforated bowl or perforated blood vessels
- Mesh erosion into the vagina
- Infection
- Organ injuries
Thousands of transvaginal mesh lawsuits, including the 100 transvaginal lawsuits that were recently settled, have accused manufacturers of creating a defective product and failing to warn against its painful and potentially dangerous side effects.
