Adult bed rails recalled overview:
- Who: Medline Industries recalled 1.5 million adult portable bed rails.
- Why: Users can become trapped within the rail or between the rail and mattress, leading to asphyxia risks.
- Where: The adult bed rails were recalled in the United States and Canada.
Medline Industries recalled 1.5 million of its adult portable bed rails after they led to a pair of deaths.
The recall also includes 5,522 bed rails in Canada.
The bed rails can lead to a risk of entrapment and asphyxia because users can become entrapped within the rail or between the rail and mattress.
In July 2019, a 76-year-old woman at a senior nursing facility in Iowa died, and, in November 2023, an 87-year-old woman at a residential care facility in South Carolina died following entrapment in the bed rails.
The recalled adult bed rails include the single model MDS6800BA and three-pack model MDS6800BAH. “Medline” and the model number are printed on a label located on the support frame of the bed rail near the vertical portion of the bed rail.

Add me please
Add me, we bought this for my 92 year old mother. We used it, and I think it’s terrible that something that is suppose to help the elderly and disabled, is faulty. My mother has since passed, and we donated all the medical equipment we had to a lending place so others could use it. How are they going to know something is now recalled?
