Do your side view mirrors shake when you drive on the highway? You may be eligible to take part in a class action lawsuit investigation. Fill out the form on this page to learn more.

Every time you get behind the wheel of a car, you depend on the side and rear view mirrors. These features are critical automotive components for maintaining situational awareness. Any problems with these mirrors can compromise safety for the driver and pose a severe risk to anyone on the roadway.

There have recently been several reports from Subaru owners alleging defective mirrors. Specifically, the rear and side view mirrors were said to shake or vibrate when the car is driven at highway speeds, interfering with the operator’s ability to monitor blind spots. Some affected drivers have replaced the defective mirrors but are still experiencing issues, suggesting an underlying problem with the manufacturing.

So far, this complaint has been levied against multiple 2024 models, including:

  • Crosstrek
  • Outback
  • Solterra
  • Ascent

Subarurear view mirrors may shake or flutter

Many Subaru customers have voiced concerns about the rear view mirrors in their 2024 models. There is even a class action filed for this concern already called ROBINSON v. SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. (1:24-cv-09334-KMW-EAP) in the Federal District Court of New Jersey.

The primary complaint is that the mirrors tend to shake or flutter, particularly at higher speeds or when driving on uneven roads. This movement can severely obstruct the driver’s view of the road behind them, making it challenging to monitor traffic.

DefectiveSubaruside view mirrors can shake

In addition to the concerns with rear view mirrors, certain Subaru owners have also reported defective side view mirrors. These side mirrors, which are critical for checking blind spots and safely changing lanes, are exhibiting the same vibrations when the car is driven at or above 40 miles per hour. Such a defect makes it difficult for drivers to accurately judge the position and speed of nearby vehicles, creating a heightened risk of accidents.

A known safety hazard

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received multiple complaints from concerned owners and lessees regarding the shaking rear and side view mirrors. Initial investigations have identified potential problems with the mirror housing, but further investigation is required.

While Subaru is reportedly aware of this issue, the company has yet to initiate a safety recall to address the defect. Dealers also lack a defined process for inspecting and repairing defective mirrors. As a result, many Subaru drivers have been unable to obtain a solution to this hazardous problem.

Further complicating matters, some owners allege Subaru dealers failed to adequately disclose this known issue at the time of sale.
