Following the impact of Hurricane Michael, consumers have turned to their insurance carriers for help with hurricane damage insurance claims. Plenty of those who submitted their claims and supporting evidence, however, still have not received the payment for their damages.
This has led to complaints lodged with state officials and insurance carriers, catching the attention of news agencies and consumer advocates as well as delaying rebuilding.
As the number of consumers waiting for results with their hurricane damage insurance claims is rising in Florida, governor-elect Ron DeSantis met with local leaders recently to push for faster payment of hurricane damage insurance claims, FLANews Online reports.

Insurance companies, according to residents of the area, are slow to pay out legitimate hurricane damage insurance claims making it difficult for the residents of the area to put the pieces of their lives back together and move on. DeSantis urged those insurance companies to make faster payments on hurricane damage insurance claims for the many residents waiting for their funds.
The Florida Office of Insurance Regulations has previously estimated the potential damage linked to hurricane damage insurance claims after the recent Hurricane Michael. The close to category 5 hurricane led to more than $4 billion in insured losses.
The majority of the hurricane damage insurance claims filed throughout the Florida panhandle were residential properties. Some residents, however, alleged that it has been quite some time since they first filed their hurricane damage insurance claims and have yet to be able to recover their losses despite submitting prompt and accurate information.
The State Chief Financial Officer has also supported the DeSantis push for the payment of hurricane damage insurance claims, arguing that the processing must be hurried up in order to allow for rebuilding across this region to occur.

Hurricane Michael swept through over two months prior, but many other repairs necessary for residents to put their lives back together, including total roof repairs, have not been paid out at this point in time, leaving residents in a difficult situation of attempting to figure out their next steps.
More consumers and legislators are expected to speak up about the problems associated with hurricane damage insurance claims and to push insurance companies and their connected reinsurance companies to reach prompt resolution on the pending claims so that the area can begin to heal and rebuild.
