A Louisiana woman recently filed an asbestos exposure lawsuit against Anco Insulation, alleging that the company allowed the exposure to asbestos that led to her husband’s death.
Cheryll B. filed the asbestos exposure lawsuit after her husband Phillip died due to an asbestos-related disease after a career as a pipefitter and fiberglass/thermoplastics welder. Phillip’s work, spanning from the 1980s to 2015, took him to a number of work sites across Louisiana.
Unfortunately, Phillip was later diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer, and he died of the illness on Aug. 27, 2015.
Cheryll filed this asbestos exposure lawsuit after her husband’s death, alleging his mesothelioma was directly caused by exposure to asbestos during his work at a variety of Louisiana companies. According to her asbestos exposure lawsuit, Phillip was exposed to asbestos-containing products and even worked with asbestos during his work with refineries, chemical plants, and other facilities. His work exposed him to large quantities of dangerous asbestos fibers, the lawsuit claims, leading to his mesothelioma diagnosis and subsequent death.
What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral used for electrical purposes or building insulation, as well as countless other uses. Asbestos is often found in construction sites. Problems with exposure to asbestos were much more common prior to the 1970s, once asbestos regulations started being put in place.
The microscopic fibers of asbestos can accumulate in the lungs over decades of exposure, but then they can quickly spread to distant organs. Asbestos exposure can cause several serious health problems, the worst of which is cancer.
Asbestos mesothelioma cancer may take decades to develop, which often means that asbestos lung cancer and mesothelioma cancer is commonly diagnosed at a late stage of development. A later diagnosis makes it significantly more dangerous for patients, as treatment options are much fewer at this point.
Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer that attacks the lining of the lungs, and has been primarily associated with exposure to asbestos. Because of this, workers in the construction industry make up a large number of those who choose to file an asbestos exposure lawsuit, as they have often spent years surrounded by products and equipment made with asbestos.
Filing an Asbestos Exposure Lawsuit
Many asbestos disease patients claim that they were made to work without proper protection or even warning of the dangers of asbestos exposure.
According to many asbestos exposure lawsuits, companies that allow workers to be exposed to asbestos should have been aware of the dangerous nature of their asbestos materials. Companies should also be aware of the serious dangers linked with asbestos exposure and take the proper precautions to avoid these issues. There are many asbestos regulations in place to prevent these kinds of problems.
If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with or died from an asbestos related disease such as mesothelioma cancer after exposure to asbestos, you may be able to file an asbestos exposure lawsuit.
The Asbestos Exposure Lawsuit is Case No. 3:17-cv-01654-JWD-RLB, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana.
