Vision Solar systems class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: A group of 22 solar consumers are suing Vision Solar.
  • Why: The plaintiffs say the company falsely advertised their solar systems.
  • Where: The Vision Solar systems class action lawsuit was filed ina New Jersey federal court.

Vision Solar preyed on vulnerable populations to sell a solar system that did not work as promised, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

A group of 22 plaintiffs filed the class action lawsuit against Vision Solar LLC on April 10 in a New Jersey federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.

According to the lawsuit, Vision Solar fraudulently induced homeowners in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania to enter into agreements to purchase residential solar photovoltaic systems.

“Vision Solar deliberately targeted vulnerable populations—including low-income, disabled, and elderly individuals—and induced them into the purchase or lease of Solar Panel Systems by systematically misrepresenting the benefits of Solar Panel Systems, including homeowners’ eligibility for tax credits, the performance of the Solar Panel Systems, and the financial terms of the loans and leasing transactions,” the lawsuit states.

The plaintiffs say the alleged tactics have been described by the Connecticut Attorney General as “the worst [the office] has seen.”

Vision Solar’s complete failure to perform as promised has left thousands of defrauded customers paying for Solar Panel Systems that are either not working at all because they are not hooked up to the power grid, or performing so far below the levels promised by Vision Solar, that they are losing money on a net basis, they add.

Hundreds of complaints filed, lawsuit states

So far, hundreds of complaints have been filed with the attorneys general of the states in which Vision Solar and its financing partners operate, the lawsuit states.

Vision Solar’s deception regarding material and foundational aspects of the sales and financing agreements for the Solar Panel Systems render each and every agreement void, the plaintiffs say.

They say they would never have entered into agreements with Vision Solar absent the company’s “lies” which allegedly saw products that don’t work sold via unfair means.

As a result, the plaintiffs seek to represent all homeowners in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania who purchased Solar Panel Systems from Vision Solar and entered into agreements with Financing Companies.

They are suing for fraudulent inducement, unjust enrichment and violations of state consumer law. The plaintiffs seek certification of the class action, restitution, disgorgement of profits, recission of the sales and financing agreements, and damages.

Meanwhile, Tesla is fighting class action claims that it has been unfairly hiking up the price of its solar roof tile system.

I had solar installed by vision solar under the guise that I would be saving and/or breaking even with the implementation of solar. I was told that my payment every month would be $76 and I would likely get a refund from SRP during the summer for overproduction if energy. Instead, I have paid the $76 per month while also OWING the electric company every month (this month being over $80)! I have made numerous attempts to contact them with no luck. The email addresses I was initially communicating with are now all mysteriously inactive.
I would love to be a part of this lawsuit.

Me too in Massachusetts. Have stories of retired electricians drinking on the job

  2. Irene says:

Vision Solar is a scam I have the panels on my roof since 2021 and it’s not work. I have make several calls to them to turn it on each time is a different story, finally a project manager called and said it’s on, but my eletric bill is still the same they are not honest. They promise me reimbursement for the loan payment I have made no payments yet. I want to know what my next step.

  3. Allen Sterling says:

Vision solar installed panels on my roof November 9th 2022 and as of now June 23 no inspection has been done. I have made multiple attempts contacting Vision Solar to resolve this issue with no results. The concierge just make excuses. I have tried getting info to contact managers or owners to no avail They received a 3 month extension on the permit. I would just like the equipment removed and have the contract cancelled and my roof repaired.

  4. Andrew Hall says:

A year and a half dealing with roof damage and leaking. Their own crew, after over a year, found that they installed flashing and anchors incorrectly. They agreed to roof repairs but make excuses, their crew stated a new roof would be required. A year and a half of water pouring into walls, destroying my ceiling along an entire row. I can’t do repairs myself because their panels must be removed. They did remove 8 panels resulting in increasing energy cost, but that was in April. Their point of contact completely went dark, ignoring calls and text.
They also agreed to reimburse over $500 for payments made for a non-operating system. They said up to 8 week, in mid-October! I’m looking at tens of thousands of dollars in repairs. Easily $10-12,000 for a new roof. thousands more to replace ceiling, insulation, window wills, walls, and who knows the long-term affect of water damage this past year and a half. Of several hurricanes(Florida), tropical storms, and another wet summer.
They had been incredibly misguiding on promised tax benefits. Saying I’d receive 28% of the solar system cost at tax return and would pay $10,000+/- or else my monthly cost would increase greatly. They knew my income, they knew my financial situation. They can’t claim ignorance. They made it perfectly clear the $$ is expected from tax break.
The system was installed January 2022. I’ve seen just a couple months of a functioning system with all panels. For a year a whole section wasn’t connected(their mistake). like 3 months later after fixing they removed like a 3rd of the panels for repairs then went dark.

My husband & I fell prey to Vision Solar’s (VS) lies. We are both Disabled Veterans which we shared with VS. We even had a teleconference with my husband when he was stuck in Afghanistan an additional 9 months after already being there since June 2019, during COVID. We have had the “system” mounted on our roof since December 2020 and it has NEVER been turned on, and Jonathon Siebert, the MA Power Clerk has missed one (1) deadline to connect us to the grid and benefit from the excellent Massachusetts MA Smart Program. And they are about to miss another one at the end of this month, June 2023. We’ve also paid them >$34,000!

How can we be included in this suit? Or, if we can’t, how can we get help to file on our own?

I am a victim of fraud. We signed up with Vision Solar in Arizona and a looking to receive help. We are dealing with a great deal of issues and now being told by a electrician that our house is at risk up catching fire due to the improper install at the fuse box and our town signed off on the mistake. Our roof was damaged and the stucco on our home. we are having to pay monthly for solar that doesnt even work on our roof as we financed the panels. Can someone please point me in the right direction. Thank you!

  8. Jeanne Gombetta says:

I have Vision Solar and now that panels are on my roof everything else has come to a grinding halt. No return phone calls although I’ve called them several times over requesting an update on connection and next step. They set me up with a Finance company called GoodLeap and I’m already getting bills for something that’s not operable. Good Leap also put a lien on my house in case I default on payments and this I never knew I was agreeing upon in financing this loan for solar panels.

  9. Alithea Groff says:

I am from dripping springs tx, signed up for a solar project and financing only to never hear from them again.

  10. Carliss wileman cline says:

I am from New Caney, Texas, 74 and retired. I had the same lies and deception told to me. I guess we all were told the same. O electric bill (wrong) , 18kw, (wrong), 30 percent rebate check (wrong) underhandedly getting you to sign a mortgage contract of $89,616.00 dollars $284.55 a month. That part was never mentioned. I call vision Solar and finance company but nothing. I believe they are all in it together. 50 improperly engineered panels. Dividend financial put a lien against my home already. They are evil no morals kind of people.

    1. Deane Dearest -Hope says:
