Victor dog food recall overview:

  • Who: Mid America Pet Food is recalling 644 cases of five-pound bags of its Victor Super Premium Dog Food, Hi-Pro Plus.
  • Why: The dog food recall comes as Mid American Pet Food says the food could have been exposed to salmonella.
  • Where: The Victor dog food recall is effective across the United States.

Mid America Pet Food is recalling 644 cases of its Victor Super Premium Dog Food, Hi-Pro Plus after the company determined that the food could have been exposed to salmonella.

The recall says the lot was produced in Mount Pleasant, Texas. The five-pound bags covered under the recall were marked with a lot code of 1000016385 and a best-by date of April 30, 2024.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said that the recall was in response to a single sample of the food testing positive for salmonella during testing by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture.

Pet owners are asked to destroy food involved in dog food recall and sanitize hands after touching it

Mid America Pet Food says it has not received any reports of illness related to the recall so far. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Those who have the affected pet food are asked to destroy the food in such a way that animals and humans cannot access it. Pet owners are then asked to sanitize bowls and storage containers used with the food and both wash and sanitize hands that could have touched the impacted food, according to the Victor dog food recall.

Consumers with questions about the voluntary recall can reach Mid America Pet Food Consumer Affairs at info@mapf.com or 1-888-428-7544 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central, Monday through Friday.

Midwestern Pet Foods agreed to pay $6.375 million earlier this year to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming it sold pet food with dangerous levels of aflatoxin and salmonella contamination.

I switched my English bulldog to Victor high pro plus 3 months ago and as of the end of last month she has been having horrible diarrhea thought it was because she just had baby’s but when took to the vet they stated that it is her food unfortunately 2 of her puppies died and the others are having bad diarrhea went back to where I purchased food tractor supply and they notified me the food was recalled this has been so heartbreaking and stressful

My Bull terrier started out of the blue with issues from this Victor food and he had to be put down on 8-17-2023.We had all kinds of blood work done. He was only 8 years old.

  4. Summer says:

My dog died the day before we found out about this recall. They could not find the reason but had we know about the food we could have treated him for salmonella. It was so bad! We never were notified and still haven’t been. We saw it on TikTok.

  5. Sadat says:

I have a 9 month old Micro Bully named Dazi and was feeding her Bully Max but the high protein content of this brand caused her to be very gassy so I decided to switch her back to the breeders choice which I ordered from Amazon; Victor Chicken and Rice. 🤨

I was actually just mixing it with the Bully Max to transition her off the Bully and about two weeks ago I noticed she went from solid poop to semi soft and 3 days ago straight up projectile diarrhea! I thought she just had a sensitive stomach.

Two days ago I received an email from Amazon telling me about the recall for Victor.

I’m pissed beyond words because of this garbage ass “premium” dog food that Victor puts out and now knowing they’ve had similar issues in the past has made it even more infuriating!

I hope they get sued again and I’ll definitely be in because this beyond inexcusable for not only pet owners but for dogs.

    1. Daniel gomez says:

My dog has kennel cough and was sick, I didn’t know that was the reason of it until now.
