GM issues recall for 450,000 vehicles due to defective warning light

General Motors recalled nearly 450,000 vehicles due to a potential issue with their electronic brake control software, which may fail to display a crucial warning light.

The recall affects certain 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 models, as well as 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles.

The problem arises if the vehicles experience a loss of brake fluid, increasing the risk of a crash and violating federal motor vehicle safety standards, the recall notice states.

To address this, GM says it plans to update the electronic brake control module software, either through an over-the-air update or in-person at GM dealerships. It will notify owners of the affected vehicles by mail starting Oct. 28, 2024, according to the recall notice.

Recall initiated for dog food due to potential salmonella, listeria contamination

Answers Pet Food recalled specific lots of its dog food after samples the U.S. Food and Drug Administration collected tested positive for salmonella and listeria.

The recall includes Answers Detailed Beef Formula for Dogs with a best-by date of May 6, 2026; Answers Straight Beef Formula for Dogs with a best-by date of Jan. 31, 2026; and Answers Straight Chicken Formula for Dogs with best-by dates of Jan. 2, 2026, and March 11, 2026.

Although no illnesses have been reported, the company initiated the recall as a precautionary measure, the recall notice states.

There is concern for both animals that may consume the affected dog food and humans who handle it, especially if proper hygiene is not followed, according to the recall notice.

Answers distributed the recalled products nationwide in retail stores and online.

Ford initiates recall for F-150s over parking lamp defect

Ford recalled more than 16,000 model year 2022 F-150 trucks due to a potential issue with the parking lamps, which could flicker under certain conditions.

The recall affects vehicles manufactured between March 11, 2022, and July 23, 2022.

According to the recall notice, the parking lamps may flicker when drivers manually select the “position lamp on” or “headlamp on” modes, or when the vehicle is in “automatic” mode and ambient light is low enough to activate “night” mode.

Flickering parking lamps can reduce the vehicle’s visibility, increasing the risk of a crash, the recall notice states. To resolve the issue, Ford will replace the LED Driver module in the affected vehicles at no cost to owners.

The company says it plans to begin notifying owners by mail starting Oct. 7, 2024.

Kia announces recall due to remote smart parking asset defect

Kia recalled certain 2024 EV9 GT-Line and Land vehicles due to a software issue that could lead to insufficient brake pressure.

The recall, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published Sept. 17, affects approximately 12,000 vehicles equipped with Remote Smart Parking Assist manufactured between Sept. 25, 2023, and May 28, 2024.

The RSPA feature allows drivers to move their vehicle forward or backward remotely using a button on the key fob, the recall notice says. However, a software error in the Integrated Electronic Brake system may cause insufficient brake pressure during repeated stops at speeds of 2 mph or less.

This issue can result in extended stopping distances while using RSPA, increasing the risk of injury to pedestrians, according to the recall notice.

Kia says it will notify owners by mail by Oct. 18, advising them to bring their vehicles to a Kia dealer for a free software update to fix the brake issue. It will also reimburse any repair expenses incurred before the recall, the recall notice states.

John Deere issues tractor recall due to crash risk

John Deere recalled more than 163,000 compact utility tractors due to a defect in the brake system that poses a crash hazard.

The recall, which the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission published Sept. 26, affects approximately 147,900 John Deere 1023E, 1025R and 2025R models sold in the United States, along with 16,800 units sold in Canada. It sold the green and yellow tractors nationwide from Nov. 2017 to July 2024, priced between $12,700 and $21,000.

The issue stems from a potential failure of the front bell crank in the brake linkage, which can lead to a loss of braking ability, the recall notice states.

John Deere says it received four reports of brake linkage failures, including one hospitalization, two injuries and minor property damage.

Owners of the affected tractors should stop using them immediately and contact an authorized John Deere dealer for a free repair, according to the recall notice. If customers are unable to transport their tractors, dealers will arrange for repairs at their homes.
