Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls for products that may pose a risk of injury to consumers. Here are Top Class Actions’ top recalls for the week of Oct. 14.

Fisher-Price issues recall for 2M+ infant swings following 5 deaths

Fisher-Price recalled more than 2 million Snuga infant swings following reports of five infant deaths due to suffocations.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall Oct. 10. It applies to all models of the Snuga swings. Between 2012 and 2022, five infants aged 1 to 3 months passed away while using the product for sleep.

Fisher-Price has emphasized that the swings are not intended for sleep and consumers should not add bedding materials to them as doing so can increase the risk of suffocation, according to the recall notice. Consumers should immediately remove the headrest and body support insert by cutting the tether to safely continue using the swing for supervised, awake-time activities.

Meat recall affects products sold at Publix, Aldi, Walmart, others

BrucePac issued a recall for approximately 11.8 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to potential contamination with listeria monocytogenes.

The company produced the affected products between May 31-Oct. 8, 2024 and distributed them to restaurants, schools and institutions across the country, the recall notice states. Major retailers such as Walmart, Publix, Target, Aldi, Amazon, and Trader Joe’s sold the recalled items.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service discovered the contamination during a routine inspection, and BrucePac later confirmed the presence of listeria in the products, according to the recall notice. Although no illnesses have been reported, FSIS says it is concerned that some of the contaminated meat and poultry may still be in circulation at restaurants, schools and institutions or even in consumer refrigerators and freezers.

Stellantis issues recall for Ram 1500s due to turn signal defect

Stellantis issued a recall for nearly 130,000 Ram 1500 pickup trucks from model years 2023-2024 due to a malfunction in the turn signal self-canceling feature, which could increase the risk of accidents.

This top recall addresses concerns that the turn signal may not automatically cancel after a completed turn, the recall notice says. This malfunction can lead to confusion among other drivers, potentially causing crashes due to misunderstood vehicle intentions.

Stellantis says it plans to notify affected Ram 1500 owners by mail starting Oct. 29, offering free inspections and, if necessary, replacements of the steering column control module.

Porsche initiates recall for Taycans due to battery defect

Porsche recalled 27,527 Taycan electric sedans from model years 2021-2024 due to a potential short circuit in the high-voltage battery modules.

To address the issue, Porsche says it will release advanced diagnostic software by the first quarter of 2025, according to the recall notice. Until then, owners should charge their Taycan vehicles to only 80% of battery capacity, the recall notice states.

Porsche says it will monitor vehicles remotely when possible and contact owners if immediate action is needed, the recall notice states. For those without online data monitoring, dealers will perform diagnostic tests and replace the battery module assembly if necessary. Repairs will be provided at no cost, and Porsche plans to notify owners by Nov. 29, 2024.

Honda announces recall for 1.6M+ vehicles due to potential steering defect

Honda issued a recall for more than 1.6 million vehicles due to a defect that could make steering difficult.

The recall affects several models, including the 2023-2025 Acura Integra, Honda CR-V, HR-V, Civic and others. The issue stems from a manufacturing flaw in the steering gearbox assembly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to increased steering effort and difficulty controlling the vehicle, the recall notice says.

Honda reported receiving more than 10,000 warranty claims related to this defect, though no injuries or fatalities have been associated with the issue, according to the recall notice. To address the problem, Honda dealers will replace the worm gear spring and adjust or add grease as necessary, free of charge. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail by Nov. 18, 2024.
