Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls for products that may pose a risk of injury to consumers. Here are Top Class Actions’ top recalls for the week of Aug. 5.

Boar’s Head expands, updates deli meat recall

Boar’s Head expanded its recall of liverwurst and deli meats produced at its Jarratt, Virginia, facility following a notification from the Department of Agriculture linking its Strassburger brand liverwurst to a nationwide listeria monocytogenes outbreak.

The recall now includes all items produced at the facility before July 31, which includes various types of ham, sausage, bacon, bologna and pork and beef frankfurters, according to the updated recall notice.

The listeria outbreak, which affects 12 states across the Midwest, East Coast and Southern United States, has resulted in 28 illnesses and hospitalizations and two deaths, the recall notice states. The Centers for Disease Control advises consumers to avoid eating meats sliced at deli counters unless they are reheated to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tesla announces recall for 1.8M+ vehicles due to potential hood latch defect

Tesla recalled more than 1.8 million vehicles due to a defect that could allow the hood to open without notifying drivers.

The recall affects 1,850,363 vehicles across several models, including the 2013-2024 Model S, 2016-2024 Model X, 2017-2024 Model 3 and 2020-2024 Model Y. The issue stems from a malfunction in the latch assembly, which may fail to detect an open hood, preventing the driver from receiving a warning when the vehicle is in motion, according to the recall notice.

Tesla began to investigate reports of unintended hood openings in March, particularly in Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China. On July 17, it decided to voluntarily recall the affected vehicles as a precautionary measure, the notice says. The company has already started providing an over-the-air software fix to address the issue at no cost to customers.

Hyundai announces Santa Fe recall due to potential airbag issues

Hyundai issued a recall for more than 49,000 model year 2024 Santa Fe and Santa Fe HEV vehicles due to a potential defect in the main floor wire harness.

The recall affects 40,144 gasoline-powered and 9,574 hybrid Santa Fe vehicles. The issue arises from possible damage to the wire harness caused by contact with the folding hinge assembly of the passenger side, second row bench seat, the recall notice states.

A damaged wire harness can trigger the airbag warning light, cause airbags to deploy unexpectedly or prevent them from deploying in an accident, according to the notice. Hyundai advises owners to visit a dealer immediately if they notice any warning symptoms. Affected vehicles will have the wire harness inspected and secured, with replacements provided if necessary, all at no cost to the owners.

Hyundai says it plans to notify all affected vehicle owners by mail by Sept. 23, instructing them to bring their vehicles to a dealer for inspection and repair, according to the recall notice.

Recall extended for supplements containing hyaluronic acid

Main Products Inc. extended its recall of supplements containing hyaluronic acid due to potential contamination with the drug ingredients diclofenac and omeprazole. The recall affects all lots of the Umary Acido Hialuronico dietary supplement.

Food and Drug Administration laboratory analysis found these supplements were tainted with the drug ingredients, which are not approved for use in dietary supplements, according to the recall notice. As a result, the product is considered an unapproved new drug, and its safety and efficacy have not been established.

Main Products distributed the recalled supplements, sold in 30-tablet bottles with an 850-milligram strength, online through Amazon. Consumers should stop using the product immediately and return it to Amazon or mail it to the address provided in the recall notice.

Fisher-Price reaches $19M class action settlement over recalled Rock ‘n Play Sleepers

Fisher-Price and its parent company Mattel requested preliminary approval from a New York federal judge for a $19 million class action settlement to resolve claims related to a recalled baby sleeper linked to more than 100 infant deaths.

Consumers alleged Fisher-Price falsely advertised the safety of its Rock ‘n Play Sleeper, which led to the recall of more than 4.7 million units in 2019.

If the settlement is approved, class members with proof of purchase and who still own the sleeper will be eligible for a refund of the listed price. Current owners without proof of purchase could receive $40, $50 or $60, depending on when they bought the product. Consumers who no longer own the sleeper could receive between $25 and $35 with proof of purchase or $10 without it.

The recall was reannounced in January 2023 after consumers reported additional infant deaths following the initial recall in April 2019. At the time of the original recall, Fisher-Price had received more than 30 reports of fatalities due to infants rolling from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, according to the settlement. Since then, the company reported around 70 additional deaths, including at least eight that occurred after the initial recall was announced.
