Samsung announces recall for slide-in electric ranges due to fire risk

Samsung issued a recall for more than 1.1 million electric ranges due to a design flaw that allows the front-mounted knobs to be accidentally turned on.ย

Since 2013, Samsung reportedly received more than 300 reports of unintentional knob activation, resulting in approximately 250 fires, according to the recall notice.ย

To mitigate the risk, Samsung advises consumers to keep children and pets away from the range knobs and ensure the knobs are turned off before leaving home or going to bed, the recall notice states.ย

The company offers a free set of knob locks or covers to those with affected models, which can be installed to prevent accidental activation. Consumers should contact Samsung for more information on how to receive the free safety accessories.ย

BMW announces recall for 105K vehicles due to starter motor fire risk

BMW of North America recalled more than 105,000 vehicles due to concerns that their starter motors could overheat.ย

The recall affects specific models, including the 2019-2020 X5 and X7, the 2020 3 Series Sedan, X6, 2020-2021 7 Series Sedan and various 2020 8 Series vehicles.ย

According to the BMW recall notice, mechanical damage could prevent the engines in these vehicles from starting, leading to repeated and prolonged starting attempts that might cause an electrical overload in the starter motor.

The recall notice says BMW plans to implement a software update that will prevent the engine starters from becoming overloaded. The updates will be available at authorized BMW centers, with notifications to affected vehicle owners scheduled to begin Sept. 23, 2024.ย

Recall issued for Maine oysters following illness reports

Certified Maine oyster dealers Chatham Shellfish Co. and Island Creek Oysters issued a recall of oysters linked to four cases of campylobacter illness.ย

The affected oysters were harvested from two sites within the MA SC28 harvest area in Lewis Bay on July 1 and July 3, 2024, according to the recall notice. The recall now includes all oysters harvested from these sites between July 1-18, 2024.ย

The dealers distributed the recalled oysters to retailers across multiple states, including California, Connecticut, Florida, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Illinois, the recall notice states. While the Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference (ISSC) reports that many of the oysters have already been consumed or destroyed, the Maine Department of Public Health is working to alert shellfish authorities in the states that received the recalled oysters.ย
