Real Kosher Ice Cream recalled a range of its Soft Serve on the Go ice cream and sorbet cups as the products may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, with two people recently hospitalized with illnesses potentially linked to the products.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website published the recall Aug. 9. It applies to all flavors of Soft Serve On The Go cups, with the affected UPC codes available here. All cups produced up to Aug. 4 were recalled.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, according to the recall.

Two cases of illness have been reported in two states: New York and Pennsylvania. Both individuals were hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported to date, according to the Soft Serve on the Go recall.

Real Kosher initiated the recall after one person became ill after reportedly eating the product. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture tested samples of the product and one tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, the recall says.

The company ceased production and distribution of the product as it continues its investigation as to what caused the problem.

It is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
