Scooter recall overview:

  • Who: DGL Group and Razor have recalled thousands of e-scooters.
  • Why: Some of the electric scooters have defects, which can cause injuries to users.
  • Where: The scooters are being recalled in the United States.

DGL Group and Razor have recalled thousands of e-scooters, as some of the electric scooters have defects, leading to injuries for dozens of users.

The companies aren’t currently facing class action lawsuits, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they can sometimes lead to legal action.

DGL e-scooter recall

DGL Group has recalled about 4,200 Hover-1 Dynamo E-Scooters as the products’ brakes can fail, posing a risk of “serious injury and crash hazard.”

The DGL scooter recall was posted to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website on July 25.

It applies to Hover-1 Dynamo e-scooters with the letters “WY” as the seventh and eighth letter in the serial number. They were sold online at Walmart.com between November 2021 and July 2022 for about $200.

According to the recall, DGL Group has received 22 reports of the e-scooter’s brakes failing.

The failing brakes have led to seven injuries, including abrasions, contusions, a dislocated shoulder, fractured teeth, lacerations and strains, the recall says.

Consumers should stop using the recalled e-scooters immediately and contact DGL Group for instructions on how to receive a full refund, the recall notice says. Consumers seeking a refund will be required to provide photographs of their e-scooter’s serial number and its severed motor cable.

Razor Icon electric scooter recall

Razor has recalled about 7,300 of its Icon electric scooters as the downtube of the recalled scooter can separate from the floorboard during use, posing a fall hazard.

The Razor scooter recall was published to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on July 25.

It involves Razor Icon electric scooters with certain model and serial numbers, which can be seen here. The electric scooters were sold in black, blue, orange, pink and red and Razor is printed in large lettering on the stem of the handlebars and the floorboard.

According to the recall, Razor has received 34 reports of partial or complete downtube separation on the scooters, with two reported injuries, including bruising.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled scooters and contact Razor to receive a refund or coupon,” the recall says.

The scooters were sold at Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Razor.com and other websites between September 2022 and March 2024 for about $600.

Consumers with proof of purchase for recalled scooters bought on or after March 11, 2023, can receive a full refund. All other consumers can request a $700 coupon for a future purchase on razor.com or a $300 refund. Consumers will be asked to remove the handlebar, and return only the handlebar to Razor. The scooter’s lithium-ion batteries must be disposed of in accordance with any local and state laws, and not in the trash, the recall says.

Last year, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned consumers to stop using Toos Elite 60-volt electric scooters. The agency is concerned the scooters are not certified to meet safety standards and could pose a fire risk, following the death of two individuals in an apartment fire that has been attributed to the devices.
