Sucralfate recall overview: 

  • Who: VistaPharm LLC recalled one lot of its sucralfate oral suspension 1-gram, 10-milliliter bottles. 
  • Why: The company initiated the recall due to bacillus cereus contamination.
  • Where: The sucralfate contamination recall is valid across the United States.

VistaPharm LLC issued a recall for one lot of its sucralfate oral suspension medicine due to bacillus cereus contamination. Sucralfate is an antiulcer therapeutic.

The sucralfate recall is for medicine packaged in a 16-ounce (414-milliliter) PET Bottle with National Drug Code 66689-305-16, the recall notice says The lot number is 810300 with an expiration date of Oct. 31, 2023.

The full product name on the label is Sucralfate Oral Suspension 1 gram per 10 milliliter, with the product lot and expiration date printed on the bottom right side of the label, according to the recall notice.

VistaPharm distributed the impacted lot nationwide to three different distributors.

VistaPharm says it has not received any reports of illness related to the recall. The contamination could lead to infections, such as endocarditis and necrotizing soft tissue infections, in those who are immunocompromised, according to the recall notice.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Inmar will conduct the sucralfate recall via FedEx and email. Consumers can call Inmar at (800) 967-5952 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., ET Monday to Thursday, or email rxrecalls@Inmar.com.

Consumers who are concerned about health issues due to the sucralfate recall should contact their physician or health care provider, according to the recall notice.

In related news, Camber Pharmaceuticals Inc. recalled some of its atovaquone oral suspension pneumonia medication due to a potential bacillus cereus contamination earlier this year.
