Oyster recall overview:ย
- Who: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a recall for all oysters harvested on Oct. 10 at Area PE9B by Future Seafoods Inc. and distributed to customers Oct. 10-16.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a recall for all oysters harvested on Oct. 10 at Area PE9B by Future Seafoods Inc. that came in contact with salmonella and unacceptable levels of E. coli and were distributed to customers Oct. 10-16.
The oysters recall impacts food distributed to restaurants and retailers in Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia, according to the recall notice.
Future Seafoods is based in Bedeque, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Salmonella infection symptoms usually begin within 12 to 72 hours, and salmonellosis usually lasts four to seven days, the recall notice states. Most people recover without treatment.
E coli is a mostly harmless bacteria but eating or drinking food or water contaminated with E. coli can cause mild to severe gastrointestinal illness, according to the recall notice.
FDA urges consumers not to eat oysters, recall says
Future Seafoods is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Consumers can call an FDA consumer complaint coordinator in their state to report an issue with the oysters. Consumers can also fill out a voluntary consumer MedWatch report.
The FDA asks restaurants and food retailers not to sell and consumers not to eat oysters from Future Seafoods Inc., the recall notice states. The agency is awaiting further information on distribution of the oysters.
In related news, a major oyster recall occurred last December in multiple states after more than 200 people fell ill with norovirus linked to raw oysters from Texas.
