  • Why: The milk may contain trace amounts of almonds, which are not listed on the label.
  • Where: The Lactaid milk recall is active in 27 states in the U.S.

HP Hood is recalling five batches of Lactaid 96-ounce milk carton varieties sold across 27 states across the country as the milk may contain trace amounts of undeclared almonds.

The recall was published to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website on Sept. 20.

It applies to Lactaid 96 oz milk carton varieties shipped to retailers and wholesalers from Sept. 5 to Sept. 18, 2024, located in Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

According to the recall, individuals who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the Lactaid products.

No illnesses have been reported so far, the company said. It is not currently facing a class action lawsuit, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely, as they can sometimes lead to legal action.

Free refund or exchange available

The recall applies to a limited number of 96-ounce plastic containers of refrigerated LACTAID Milk with the code 51-4109 P2 and best by dates listed here.

This issue was discovered as a result of routine maintenance which revealed the potential for trace amounts of almonds, the company said.

Consumers who purchased the incorrectly labeled product may return it to where they bought it for a full refund or exchange, or call Hood Consumer Affairs at 800-242-2423 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time.

Meanwhile, several companies recalled ready-to-eat poultry products earlier this year that include Rizo-López Foods dairy products, which may be contaminated with listeria.
