John Deere recall overview: 

  • Who: Kawasaki Motors USA issued a recall for about 39,000 John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers with Kawasaki engines sold in the United States and about 2,600 sold in Canada. 
  • Why: The company initiated the John Deere recall over concerns the mowers could overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. 
  • Where: The mower recall affects consumers nationwide and in Canada. 

Kawasaki Motors USA issued a recall for about 39,000 John Deere ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers with Kawasaki engines over concerns their engine can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards.

The recall, which includes around 2,600 mowers sold in Canada, involves John Deere-branded ZTrak Zero Turn Mowers with model numbers Z720E, Z730M, Z740R and Z760R with Kawasaki engines. 

Kawasaki says the voltage regulator in the recalled John Deere mowers can fail, according to the recall notice.

Consumers should immediately stop using recalled John Deere mowers

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled John Deere mowers and contact an authorized John Deere dealer to schedule a free repair, the mower recall states. 

Kawasaki says it has received five reports of fires involving the recalled John Deere mowers, as well as 26 reports of melting and/or smoking incidents. 

The company sold the mowers at authorized John Deere dealers nationwide from October 2018-September 2024 for $8,000-$11,500.

In August 2024, Stanley Black & Decker issued a recall for around 46,200 DeWALT-brand mowers in the United States and about 9,600 in Canada over concerns they could fail to shut off when the bail handle is released or started without a key.
