  • Who: Gills Onions voluntarily recalled select lots of its fresh diced onion products.ย 
  • Why: The voluntary recall was initiated over concerns the fresh diced onion products may have been contaminated with salmonella.ย 
  • Where: The recalled fresh diced onion products were sent to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana and Oregon.ย 

Gills Onions has voluntarily recalled select lots of its fresh diced onion products over concerns they may have been contaminated with salmonella.ย 

The recall involves certain Gills Onions fresh diced onion products with a use-by-date of August 2023 that were sent to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon, according to a notice published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Oct. 23.ย 

โ€œAnyone who has an expired, recalled product in their possession should not consume it and should destroy or discard it,โ€ the fresh diced onions recall states.ย 

Gills Onions said it is conducting the voluntary recall โ€œout of an abundance of cautionโ€ after the FDA notified the company that the products came up in a traceback investigation itโ€™s conducting into an ongoing Salmonella Thompson outbreak.ย 

Consumers advised to discard, destroy recalled Gills Onions fresh diced onion products

Individuals who own any of the recalled fresh diced onion products are advised not to consume them and to destroy or discard them.ย

In another onion-related recall, more than six companies and two major suppliers issued a recall for their whole onions in November 2021 over concerns they may have been contaminated with salmonella.ย 

That recall came in the wake of a multistate salmonella outbreak that caused both illnesses and hospitalizations and that was linked to onions imported into the country from Mexico.ย
