Mid America Pet Food initiated a recall for three lots of its Victor Super Premium Dog Food, Select Beef Meal & Brown Rice Formula, as the food may have been contaminated with salmonella at a Mount Pleasant, Texas, production facility.
The salmonella was found during random third-party testing, according to the recall notice.
The dog food recall includes lot no. 1000016890 of the 5-pound bags, lot no. 1000016891 of the 15-pound bags and lot no. 1000016892 of the 40-pound bags. All three have a June 12, 2024, best-by date. Consumers can find the lot code on the back of the bag.Â
Pets with salmonella can be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting, according to the recall. Human symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.
Dog food recall unrelated to previous Mid America Pet Food recall, company says
Mid America Pet Food says it has not received any reports of human or pet illness related to the recall. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Consumers can reach Mid America Pet Food Consumer Affairs at [email protected] or (888) 428-7544 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday to Friday. Retailers should pull the products from shelves, and customers should dispose of the product so children, pets and wildlife cannot have access.
In September, Mid America Pet Food recalled 644 cases of its Victor Super Premium Dog Food, Hi-Pro Plus after the company said the food could have been exposed to salmonella. The company says the current dog food recall is separate from and unrelated to the previous salmonella recall.
