Power bank recall overview:

  • Who: Charmast has recalled more than 480,000 power banks.
  • Why: The power banks can overheat and catch fire.
  • Where: The power bank recall is active in the United States

Charmast is recalling more than 480,000 power banks as they can overheat and start a fire, with dozens of consumers already filing reports of power banks overheating and in some cases causing injuries.

The recall was published to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website on Dec. 19. It applies to about 488,000 recCharmast power banks, model W1056.

According to the recall, the lithium-ion battery in the recalled power banks can overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.

So far, Charmast has received 44 reports of the recalled power banks expanding, igniting, melting, overheating or smoking, including four reports of consumers receiving burns or blisters, the company said.

Charmast is not currently facing legal action but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they can sometimes result in lawsuits.

Charmast offers full refund to customers

The recalled power banks were sold at Amazon.com between December 2018 and September 2024 for $14-$25.

Consumers should stop using the recalled power banks immediately and contact Charmast for instructions on how to receive a full refund, the recall states.

To receive a refund, consumers will be required to provide photographs of their model W1056 power bank, their names and dates of the photograph written in permanent marker above the label, and the severed power cord. Consumers should dispose of the power banks in accordance with local and state regulations, the recall states.

Last year, Fantasia Trading recalled more than 42,000 Anker Power Banks as the lithium-ion batteries in the products can overheat and cause injury.
