Peloton bike recall overview:
- Who: Peloton recalled about 2.2 million exercise bikes.
- Why: The bikes pose a fall and injury hazard.
- Where: The Peloton bike recall is active in the United States.
Peloton recalled more than 2 million exercise bikes as they pose a fall and injury hazard, with 13 reports of injuries so far.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website published the recall May 11. It applies to about 2.2 million Peloton Bikes Model PL01.
According to the recall, the bike’s seat post assembly can break during use.
The Peloton recall comes after the company received 35 reports of the seat post breaking and detaching from the bike during use, including 13 reports of injuries, including a fractured wrist, lacerations and bruises due to falling from the bike.
The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Stop using bike immediately, Peloton recall says
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled exercise bikes and contact Peloton for a free repair, the company says. Peloton is offering consumers a free seat post that can be self-installed.
Peloton sold the recalled bike at Peloton and Dick’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide and online at onepeloton.com, amazon.com and dicksportinggoods.com from Jan. 2018 through May 2023 for about $1,400.
The bikes measure 4 ft. x 2 ft., and have adjustable seats, handlebars and screens, which tilt up and down to accommodate different heights. The Peloton name and model number are on the inside front fork near the flywheel.
In other Peloton news, in January, the Consumer Product Safety Commision (CPSC) approved a $19 million civil fine against Peloton after it sold treadmills with a deadly defect that killed a 6-year-old.

See my 5/24 post here; Peloton won’t commit to any dates for shipping the new posts. Loss of use of my Peloton is now 44 days; called Peloton for status, no credits, no free month; they told me to suspend my membership so I wouldn’t be invoiced! Very sad for all Peloton bike users

I have 2 peloton bikes which were part of the recall. I can’t use them but peloton went ahead and charged me my monthly app fee even though I can’t use my bike due to them. I contacted them and asked for a credit and they said it was up to me to freeze the app charge and even though I could not use my bike I still ahd to pay for the past months app fee. I can’t believe this is legal.
I’ve not received the new seat post for my Peloton. I’ve not been on the bike since the recall notice. This should be considered for a class action against Peloton. Monthly subscription charges should be refunded and Peloton should be sued for “loss of use”; I bought a Peloton due to my love of bike riding.
I own a peloton bike that was purchased in 2022. Please add me
