Honda recalls overview:

  • Who: American Honda Motor recalled around 391,800 lawnmowers and pressure washer engines.
  • Why: Honda initiated the recall over concerns it manufactured the products with defective camshafts that could cause the starter rope to suddenly retract when pulled.
  • Where: The recalls affect consumers nationwide.

American Honda Motor issued a recall for around 391,800 of its Honda lawnmowers and pressure washer engines over concerns they are equipped with defective camshafts in their engines that can cause the starter rope to suddenly retract when pulled.

Honda received 2,197 reports of camshaft failures and seven minor injuries linked to the recall, which the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission published Sept. 14.

The recall involves Honda HRN216 and HRX217K6 lawnmowers and GCV170/200 G5B pressure washer engines. The serial number for the pressure washer engines is located on a flat spot on the engine, while the model and serial number for the lawnmowers are printed on a label on the upper rear of the lawnmower’s deck.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Honda lawnmowers and pressure washer engines and contact an authorized Honda Power Equipment dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair and inspection, the recall states.

Honda lawnmowers, pressure washer engines sold nationwide, recall states

Honda sold the lawnmowers nationwide from May 2022 to June 2023 at Honda Power Equipment dealers; retail stores Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Lowes and Northern Tool; and a number of farm, agricultural and rental stores for $550 to $1,100.

The company sold the pressure washer engines nationwide at Lowes, Home Depot and other retail stores from June 2022 to August 2023 for $370 to $550.

Consumers who have more questions about the recall can contact Honda directly by phone at (888) 888-3139 or online.

Kawasaki Motors announced a separate recall involving lawn mowers in March: 33,000 of its lawn mower engines. The company initiated the recall over concerns fuel could leak from the engines, creating a fire hazard.

My 4 month old honda mower has been recalled for this defect. The repair for this problem requires the engine to be disassembled. I am not sure big box store high school kids are up to this task. Honda should replace these mower with new ones. Most are under a year old. Please add me to the list.

Please add my name your list.

I was injured by my brand new Honda lawnmower affected by the recall back in April. I am wondering how many other people got hurt by theirs? When I pulled the cord, it kicked and my arm hit the handle causing substantial bruising to my forearm and soft tissue damage. It hurt pretty bad. I have a time stamped picture.
