Honda recalls overview:ย

  • Who: Honda has recently been in the headlines over a number of recalls and class action lawsuits.ย
  • Why: The Honda recalls and class action lawsuits involve concerns relating to brake and rear view camera defects, electric power steering system issues and an alleged variable timing control defect.ย
  • Where: The Honda recalls and class actions affect consumers nationwide.ย

Honda has been in the headlines recently on account of several recalls and class action lawsuits filed against the automaker.ย

The Honda recalls have been in regard to brake and rear view camera defects, while the class action lawsuits allege issues with its vehiclesโ€™ electric power steering and variable timing control systems.ย

Honda recalls more than 124,000 vehicles over unexpected loss of brake function

Honda recalled more than 124,000 Civic, Passport, and Pilot vehicles late last month over concerns the vehicles could suffer an unexpected loss of brake function, potentially resulting in a crash.ย

The recall, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) published June 29, applies to certain model year 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles.

Honda says it received two warranty claims related to the recall since September 2022, with no reports of crashes, injuries or deaths connected to the issue.ย

Honda recalls nearly 400 vehicles over defective brake hold concerns

Honda initiated another recall last month for nearly 400 of its model year 2023 Civic, Accord, Acura RDX and Acura Integra vehicles over concerns they were manufactured with defective brake holds.ย

The automaker initiated the recall over concerns the brake holds were damaged in production, causing the affected Honda vehicles to move while the brake hold is activated.ย

Honda says it has not received any reports of injury connected to the recall and plans to contact all impacted vehicle owners by mail starting July 24.ย

Honda recalls more than 1.1 million Odyssey, Pilot, Passport vehicles over rearview camera concerns

Honda recalled more than 1.1 million of its Odyssey, Pilot, and Passport vehicles in June over concerns they were equipped with defective rearview cameras that may not display properly.ย

The recall, which the NHTSA published June 15, applies to model year 2018-2023 Honda Odyssey, 2019-2022 Honda Pilot and 2019-2023 Honda Passport vehicles.ย

โ€œA rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driverโ€™s rear view, increasing the risk of a crash or injury,โ€ the Honda recall states.

As of June 8, Honda says it received 273,870 warranty claims related to the recall, with no reports of injuries or death.ย

Honda knowingly sold vehicles with defective variable timing control actuators, says class action

More than a dozen individuals filed a class action lawsuit against Honda earlier this month, arguing the automaker concealed a variable timing control actuator defect in some of its vehicles.ย

The group argues the alleged defect can result in catastrophic engine failure, in addition to posing a safety hazard.ย

The alleged timing control actuator defect affects model year 2012-2014 CR-Vs with a 2.4-liter engine, 2012 Accords with an L4 engine and 2012-2015 Crosstours with an L4 engine, according to the Honda class action.ย

Honda is accused of knowing about the alleged defect but deciding to conceal it and continuing to sell the defective R44 Actuator prior to introducing a replacement actuator in February 2016.ย

Honda produced 2022-2023 Civic vehicles with defective electric power steering systems, class action claims

In April, a pair of drivers filed a class action lawsuit against Honda, arguing the automaker manufactured its model year 2022-2023 Honda Civic vehicles with defective electric power steering systems.ย

The drivers argue the impacted vehiclesโ€™ electric power steering systems โ€œhave the propensity to โ€˜stick,โ€™ which requires a momentary increase in steering effort that can result in steering overcorrections that could lead to collisions.โ€ย

Honda either knew or should have known about the alleged defect due to its prerelease vehicle testing, according to the Honda class action, which accuses the automaker of failing to disclose the alleged issue to consumers.ย

Also in April, a driver filed a similar class action lawsuit claiming the automaker sold model year 2022-2023 Honda Civic vehicles with electric braking systems that can stick when the vehicles are driven at highway speeds.ย

The consumer behind the complaint argues the alleged defect can cause vehicle owners to overcorrect, resulting in an increased risk of a collision.ย

Honda is accused of knowing about the alleged issue but failing to disclose the issue while actively concealing it from the public.ย

Add me please I have a 2021 honda civic

  2. William Albit Jr. says:

My 2018 CR-V also has a camera that it โ€œoffโ€ by at least a foot but CR-Vs arenโ€™t part of recall. My mechanic looked at it and told me there is no way to adjust the camera.

  3. Norma says:

I have a 2014 CR-V. Noticed a rattling noise on start up but then goes away. After reading through all the online complaints regarding this issue, I canโ€™t believe there is no recall on the actuator. I wish I would have read about Honda recalls before I bought the car.

  4. Tamela Chrestman says:

Yes I have. I went last Aug to ck my brakes with only 40k miles on a 2013 CRV in which Iโ€™ve only put 20k on since 3/ 2016. Purchased as almost new had been on lease with 21k miles. Vehicle seemed to not want to stop upon hitting breaks causing me to even pass a turn in etc on several occasions in 2022 & prior but seem to worsen. Was told they didnโ€™t exp what I was in which not all the time. Not in bad shape told but for caution and any service coming due for certain maintenance I wanted new so spent almost $300 to replace and to new Aug 2022. To again now still doing again. Amazing to see THIS! CANโ€™T BELIEVE BODY SHOP WASNโ€™T AWARE. Stops but seems to slide at times and very SCARYโ€ฆ.To inside vehicle steering wheel etc looks unbelievably old discoloration more. Owned couple older Hondas Accords never seen such on steering wheel etc looks 20 yrs old or more to makes a noise upon starting. Regular maintenance

We tolerate too much defective crap from manufacturers. Honda japan ceo even said himself some time ago he has to cut corners. The result is the internet is flooded with millions of complaints about quality and customer service. Same for other brands. Because we allow it. Manufacturers need to be sued out of existence and forced to compensate everyone for repairs and inconvenience they cause to consumers. We should have zero tolerance for cosmetic, mechanical defects, and design flaws. Cars are not DIY projects. We pay criminally high price for the executivesโ€™ greed and shoddy workmanship. Iโ€™ve had zero enjoyment since i bought my second and last Honda. Never again.

    1. Emiko Key says:

I own a 2021 Honda Pilot that I purchased brand new. I have been extremely disappointed with the quality of workmanship on my vehicle. The interior and exterior is built with cheap flimsy material! Iโ€™ve had an issue with several things on my vehicle and the service Dept where I purchased my vehicle is horrible! These cars are too expensive to be a source of stress. Honda is not what it used to be years ago!

  6. Dina M Paris says:

I have a 2011 Honda Polit and it goes on itโ€™s own. I mean once every couple of months it will take off on its own. I mean i go to stop at a light or go to park, take my foot off the brake and it just takes off on itโ€™s own. Then Iโ€™ll have to stomp on the brakes for it to stop going forward. I bring it to a mechanicโ€™s and they find nothing.

  7. Katherine E. Burke says:

I have a 2010 Acura TL Tech in which the infotainment system is merely useless at this point and doesnโ€™t even connect to Acuraโ€™s cloud based monitoring service but more recently there is a fog of some sort on the screen which degrades the ability to view the back up camera as well as anything on the screen. Iโ€™m not sure if itโ€™s from heat degradation which allowed for moisture to get behind the screen but this only adds to the rusting sideview mirrors caused by the heating feature โ€“ lastly the paint is horrific and frankly has been even when it only had ~60,000 miles on it (black). All of these issues make driving what was / is my dream car a frustrating mess. Oh โ€“ and has anyone else dealt with loss of a key which upon bringing my car into the dealership to have a new key programmed โ€“ I drove home and COULD NOT SHUT OFF THE CAR (stuck in auxiliary mode) due to an alleged faulty โ€œkeyless driver slotโ€ which upon calling the dealership they said they always recommend acura tl drivers to swap out the โ€œKeyless Slotโ€ after 10 years (which to me is absurd because I NEVER used it and thereโ€™s no need for it as the car key has a small watch battery and doesnโ€™t need to be charged within the slot at all. Well somehow during the course of re-programming a new key (that a mover lost who had driven my car) they clearly removed / tampered with the keyless slot but somehow I was responsible for the $600 replacement job and the 6 different towโ€™s back to the dealership as I dealt with one issue after the other with the dealership. The VP of the dealership even promissed to reimburse me for the part ($130 out of a $600 charge โ€“ riddle me that?!) but they never did. And to make matters worse a couple months after I had all this unnecessary and ridiculous work done to no wish of mine, the dealership sent me some letter referencing an Acura Rewards program based on the money I spent at the dealership โ€“ yet they didnโ€™t provide this to me prior so I received zero benefit from this BS program. Absolute headache and frankly if I had more time Iโ€™d seek damages in court but donโ€™t even want to deal with them anymore. But the fogged up navigation / backup camera is still a major concern and canโ€™t seem to get an answer on how it couldโ€™ve happened and what the fix would be outside of having to pay for a whole new navigation / camera / audio module (and all the associated electrical work). Anyone else with these issues โ€“ or any advice at all would be extremely appreciated! โ€“ Lifelong Acura / Honda Owner (along with my entire family!)

  9. Adriana arredondo says:

I leased a honda accord for 3 years and took the car for break inspection . Multiple times. All times they would never find anything wrong with the vehicle.they would actually make it seem like i was lying.
While driving the accord on the freeway it would react to a car ingront or to my side. When the road was clear. At times it would break drastically , on its own.
In may of this year i ended up changing vehicles because it was a nonstop action with the vehicle. Amd they would do nothing about it. .

  10. Ammar Al-Yasin says:

I have Honda CRV 2023 and before that I had 2019 Honda Insight. Man, I treaded in the insight before I even change the breaks. They are both reliable cars. The 2019 Insight had the Radar without a cover to protect it. Now I can see that Honda has fixed this in the CRV. Both are Hybrid. Thanks to God I do not have, so far, any issues at all. I helped my wife 3 months ago to get 2023 HRV and my friend to get the Civic 2023. You can say that we love this Auto Brand and I havenโ€™t heard any complain about breaks or timing or engine or similar. Everyoneโ€™s experience is different.
