Honda has been in the headlines recently on account of several recalls and class action lawsuits filed against the automaker.ย
The Honda recalls have been in regard to brake and rear view camera defects, while the class action lawsuits allege issues with its vehiclesโ electric power steering and variable timing control systems.ย
Honda recalls more than 124,000 vehicles over unexpected loss of brake function
Honda recalled more than 124,000 Civic, Passport, and Pilot vehicles late last month over concerns the vehicles could suffer an unexpected loss of brake function, potentially resulting in a crash.ย
The recall, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) published June 29, applies to certain model year 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles.
Honda says it received two warranty claims related to the recall since September 2022, with no reports of crashes, injuries or deaths connected to the issue.ย
Honda recalls nearly 400 vehicles over defective brake hold concerns
Honda initiated another recall last month for nearly 400 of its model year 2023 Civic, Accord, Acura RDX and Acura Integra vehicles over concerns they were manufactured with defective brake holds.ย
The automaker initiated the recall over concerns the brake holds were damaged in production, causing the affected Honda vehicles to move while the brake hold is activated.ย
Honda says it has not received any reports of injury connected to the recall and plans to contact all impacted vehicle owners by mail starting July 24.ย
Honda recalls more than 1.1 million Odyssey, Pilot, Passport vehicles over rearview camera concerns
Honda recalled more than 1.1 million of its Odyssey, Pilot, and Passport vehicles in June over concerns they were equipped with defective rearview cameras that may not display properly.ย
The recall, which the NHTSA published June 15, applies to model year 2018-2023 Honda Odyssey, 2019-2022 Honda Pilot and 2019-2023 Honda Passport vehicles.ย
โA rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driverโs rear view, increasing the risk of a crash or injury,โ the Honda recall states.
As of June 8, Honda says it received 273,870 warranty claims related to the recall, with no reports of injuries or death.ย
Honda knowingly sold vehicles with defective variable timing control actuators, says class action
More than a dozen individuals filed a class action lawsuit against Honda earlier this month, arguing the automaker concealed a variable timing control actuator defect in some of its vehicles.ย
The group argues the alleged defect can result in catastrophic engine failure, in addition to posing a safety hazard.ย
The alleged timing control actuator defect affects model year 2012-2014 CR-Vs with a 2.4-liter engine, 2012 Accords with an L4 engine and 2012-2015 Crosstours with an L4 engine, according to the Honda class action.ย
Honda is accused of knowing about the alleged defect but deciding to conceal it and continuing to sell the defective R44 Actuator prior to introducing a replacement actuator in February 2016.ย
Honda produced 2022-2023 Civic vehicles with defective electric power steering systems, class action claims
In April, a pair of drivers filed a class action lawsuit against Honda, arguing the automaker manufactured its model year 2022-2023 Honda Civic vehicles with defective electric power steering systems.ย
The drivers argue the impacted vehiclesโ electric power steering systems โhave the propensity to โstick,โ which requires a momentary increase in steering effort that can result in steering overcorrections that could lead to collisions.โย
Honda either knew or should have known about the alleged defect due to its prerelease vehicle testing, according to the Honda class action, which accuses the automaker of failing to disclose the alleged issue to consumers.ย
Also in April, a driver filed a similar class action lawsuit claiming the automaker sold model year 2022-2023 Honda Civic vehicles with electric braking systems that can stick when the vehicles are driven at highway speeds.ย
The consumer behind the complaint argues the alleged defect can cause vehicle owners to overcorrect, resulting in an increased risk of a collision.ย
Honda is accused of knowing about the alleged issue but failing to disclose the issue while actively concealing it from the public.ย

I purchased a 2017 MDX new from dealer and from the very beginning experienced brake concerns in that ordinary braking results in shuttering common to that experienced with anti lock action. The dealer checked lug nut tolerances and inspected the system as noted on my servi e invoices and supposedly found nothing. The concern was reported several times over the years with no correction. It exists today on my MDX with less than 25,000 miles on it.

I have 2003 Honda Odyssey that has been plagued with transmission problems. I know no problem with these vehicles yet they were never recalled for transmission Replacement @100000 miles Iโve never had reverse Since. I couldnโt afford to fix again
The Odyssey has an external coffee can type filter most parts stores donโt bring up itโs on the cooler line. I had bought a 2011 that had a stutter when shifting. Was told by certified transmission it would need an entire new transmission for 7k. I did some research and knew it was that filter and told them so but they insisted it needed a trans. I spent $70 on Amazon bought that filter said it was for an Acura but was correct fit. And 4 quarts of fluid drained old fluid and replaced the coffee can filter myself in my driveway with primitive tools. It shifts like a new car to this day. My cousin bought an 04 has that same filter so your 03 should have it too
