Honda has been in the headlines recently on account of several recalls and class action lawsuits filed against the automaker.ย
The Honda recalls have been in regard to brake and rear view camera defects, while the class action lawsuits allege issues with its vehiclesโ electric power steering and variable timing control systems.ย
Honda recalls more than 124,000 vehicles over unexpected loss of brake function
Honda recalled more than 124,000 Civic, Passport, and Pilot vehicles late last month over concerns the vehicles could suffer an unexpected loss of brake function, potentially resulting in a crash.ย
The recall, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) published June 29, applies to certain model year 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles.
Honda says it received two warranty claims related to the recall since September 2022, with no reports of crashes, injuries or deaths connected to the issue.ย
Honda recalls nearly 400 vehicles over defective brake hold concerns
Honda initiated another recall last month for nearly 400 of its model year 2023 Civic, Accord, Acura RDX and Acura Integra vehicles over concerns they were manufactured with defective brake holds.ย
The automaker initiated the recall over concerns the brake holds were damaged in production, causing the affected Honda vehicles to move while the brake hold is activated.ย
Honda says it has not received any reports of injury connected to the recall and plans to contact all impacted vehicle owners by mail starting July 24.ย
Honda recalls more than 1.1 million Odyssey, Pilot, Passport vehicles over rearview camera concerns
Honda recalled more than 1.1 million of its Odyssey, Pilot, and Passport vehicles in June over concerns they were equipped with defective rearview cameras that may not display properly.ย
The recall, which the NHTSA published June 15, applies to model year 2018-2023 Honda Odyssey, 2019-2022 Honda Pilot and 2019-2023 Honda Passport vehicles.ย
โA rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driverโs rear view, increasing the risk of a crash or injury,โ the Honda recall states.
As of June 8, Honda says it received 273,870 warranty claims related to the recall, with no reports of injuries or death.ย
Honda knowingly sold vehicles with defective variable timing control actuators, says class action
More than a dozen individuals filed a class action lawsuit against Honda earlier this month, arguing the automaker concealed a variable timing control actuator defect in some of its vehicles.ย
The group argues the alleged defect can result in catastrophic engine failure, in addition to posing a safety hazard.ย
The alleged timing control actuator defect affects model year 2012-2014 CR-Vs with a 2.4-liter engine, 2012 Accords with an L4 engine and 2012-2015 Crosstours with an L4 engine, according to the Honda class action.ย
Honda is accused of knowing about the alleged defect but deciding to conceal it and continuing to sell the defective R44 Actuator prior to introducing a replacement actuator in February 2016.ย
Honda produced 2022-2023 Civic vehicles with defective electric power steering systems, class action claims
In April, a pair of drivers filed a class action lawsuit against Honda, arguing the automaker manufactured its model year 2022-2023 Honda Civic vehicles with defective electric power steering systems.ย
The drivers argue the impacted vehiclesโ electric power steering systems โhave the propensity to โstick,โ which requires a momentary increase in steering effort that can result in steering overcorrections that could lead to collisions.โย
Honda either knew or should have known about the alleged defect due to its prerelease vehicle testing, according to the Honda class action, which accuses the automaker of failing to disclose the alleged issue to consumers.ย
Also in April, a driver filed a similar class action lawsuit claiming the automaker sold model year 2022-2023 Honda Civic vehicles with electric braking systems that can stick when the vehicles are driven at highway speeds.ย
The consumer behind the complaint argues the alleged defect can cause vehicle owners to overcorrect, resulting in an increased risk of a collision.ย
Honda is accused of knowing about the alleged issue but failing to disclose the issue while actively concealing it from the public.ย

i have a 2019 honda crv and have problems with the rearview camera.
I have a 2021 Civicโฆ Please add me to the class action!
BTW, were all these defective and sub-standard parts made in China? I remember when Honda was 100% Japan-made and there were never any issues with themโฆ
I have a 2014 CR-V. Add me to this one please
My Honda pilot was just in the shop for one recall but now another, this is too much. I noticed different things about the car but thought it was okay. I am taking this car right back. I always stood behind Honda but I have to go another route now.
I have a 2020 Honda civic sport and I am having trouble with front in it feels like shaking my front pass tire and I feel it in the gas pedal to so many people have looked at my car but we havenโt figured it out
I have a rear view camera defect for my 2016 Honda Accord. The camera worked one day and went blank the following day. I called Honda corporate (recall) to see if my vehicle would qualify but I was told there were not enough complains for my vehicles year to be included in the recall yet.
I had the same problem on my 2013 Honda Accord. I went to dealership and they said ohh we never heard about that and no recalls. I spent my money and got it fixed
I have a 2016 honda civic my rear view camera goes blank and want come back on for a day r two
I bought a used 2016 Honda CRV in 2019 or 2020 l would have to check my paperwork for exact year. July 2023 l took my car to Honda dealership because it was leaking oil and they replaced the valve cover gaskets a long with many more things. I canโt believe they sold me a car that the air bag didnโt work. I ask them why it wasnโt checked before they sold it to me. They told me that it must of been the person that traded it in. I told them the reason l bought this car because Honda told me it was checked out bumper to bumper. Well of course I had them replaced the airbag I didnโt want to be driving around another 4 years without an airbag of course. So after all the things weโre fixed on my car l finally got to pick my car up paying 2962.34. Boy oh boy that hurt hard had to take a loan out. I would think it would be against the law to sell a used car that a air bag didnโt work.
I try getting my vtc actuator fix from them on my 2010 accord they ignored it saying it was nothing wrong with it until my warranty was expired. I had to pay to get it fixed.
I have. 2012 variable timing issue as well and they have not issued a recall and are ignoring it
I have a crv 2012 with a variable timing actuator issue when will Honda come clean and send a recall on this been dealing with this issue
2023 accord?
Honda and NHTSA may not be open and honest regarding VIN search for safety. Is it possible that after the fact of incident or damages, they are able to delete or remove VIN from safety recall list regarding airbag inflator once theyโve deployed? If Honda or NHTSA get notice if inflator deployed and used, dies that take that vehicle VIN off the list? If so, a person is in vehicle upon defective airbag inflator deploymentand has damages, ateveither entities or whomever maintains List of VINs, is it possible the person with damages would not know since after inflator deployment, the VIN is nolonger on safety list, that data is nolonger open to public.
Hope my explanation makes sense.
Basically, liable company modifying list to avoid liability especially since too late to prevent, damage done, kimodifies or alters the VIN search list by removing the VIN so couldnโt be found. The VIN search vs a product number or a non modifiable list that only can removed VIN IDs per standard protocol, not in cases of deployment. My head took a hard hit I know that. I believe my inflator was defective. Honda 2003 Element in hot Florida 20 years, great risk.
