Weinstein Wholesale Meats has initiated a recall of more than 2,000 pounds of raw ground beef burger products as the patties may be contaminated with pieces of white rubber.

The recall was published on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website April 20.

It applies to 2,122 pounds of raw ground beef burger patties produced March 14, 2023. According to the notice, the products may be contaminated with pieces of white neoprene, a type of rubber.

The problem was discovered after the company received multiple consumer complaints reporting consumers finding white “rubber-like” material in the ground beef patty products during preparation, the recall states.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the products so far. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Throw away or return the patties, recall says

The recalled products were sold in 10.7-ounce. vacuum-sealed packages containing two pieces of “100% Grass Fed & Finished Beef Burger Patties 85% Lean/15% Fat” and with “Use/Freeze By 4/11/23” on the package label, the recall states.

They have the establishment number “Est. 6987” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The items were shipped to an online distributor, which sold the product to customers nationwide, the recall says.

Consumers are urged not to consume the recalled products. They should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase, the company said.

Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider, it added.

Last year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public health alert after discovering that a ground beef product produced by FBS Hudson may have been contaminated with E. coli.
