Frigidaire refrigerator recall overview:

  • Who: Electrolux Group recalled around 383,240 of its Frigidaire Side By Side Refrigerators with Slim Ice Buckets sold in the U.S., and an additional 5,785 that were sold in Canada.
  • Why: The recall was initiated over concerns the ice buckets in the recalled refrigerators contain an assembly that could break, causing plastic pieces to enter the ice bucket and creating a choking and laceration hazard in the event they were to be dispensed.
  • Where: The recall impacts consumers in the U.S. and Canada.

Electrolux Group issued a Frigidaire refrigerator recall for nearly 400,000 of its Frigidaire Side By Side Refrigerators with Slim Ice Buckets over concerns plastic pieces could enter the ice bucket, creating both choking and laceration hazards.

The refrigerators recall, which includes 383,240 units sold in the United States and 5,785 units sold in Canada, involves more than a dozen models of the Frigidaire refrigerators manufactured between 2015 and 2019.

Electrolux Group said the ice buckets in the recalled Frigidaire refrigerators contain an assembly component that could break, causing the plastic pieces to enter the ice bucket and create both choking and laceration hazards in the event they are dispensed.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the ice makers and to contact the company to receive a replacement ice bucket assembly component free of charge, according to the recall.

2 injuries reported, Frigidaire refrigerator recall says

Electrolux Group said it has received 343 reports of plastic pieces breaking off in the recalled Frigidaire refrigerators, resulting in two instances of laceration and ingestion injuries.

The recalled Frigidaire refrigerators were sold on Frigidaire’s website and at Lowe’s, Home Depot and other retail stores nationwide from November 2015 through September 2019 for between $1,400 and $2,400.

Individuals with more questions about the recall can contact Electrolux Group directly by phone at 888-377-7563, email or through a website set up for the recall.

Electrolux previously recalled 13 models of its Frigidaire and Electrolux side-by-side, top freezer and multi-door refrigerators in June 2022 over concerns the ice level detector arm in the fridge’s ice maker could break into pieces and fall into the ice bucket, creating a choking hazard.

Add me. I bought a Frigidaire refrigerator for the first time a few years ago (2022), and it’s been nothing but trouble ever since. Here are my issues:
    1. The inside of the freezer cracked open (horizontal length, left internal side), which my husband covered with white tape. The plastic literally cracked wide open, and the adjacent outside (gray area) is all rust now.
    2. All of the drawers inside of the refrigerator cracked and broke immediately upon purchase — the inside refrigerator door shelves are made of cheap plastic and are so brittle!!!!!
    3. Now the refrigerator is leaking water.
    4. I’ve wasted 100s of dollars in food.
    5. I tried to talk to someone in Customer Service. This is unacceptable. This is, by far, the worst appliance I’ve ever owned in my life and I need this replaced ASAP and I need a new refrigerator!! I have little kids who need to eat!
