Fresh Express issued a voluntarily recall of two of its spinach products earlier this month over concerns they may have been contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

The recall involves Fresh Express Spinach sold in an 8-ounce size with the product code G332 and a use-by-date of Dec. 15, 2023, and Publix Spinach sold in a 9-ounce size with the product code G332 and a use-by-date of Dec. 14, 2023.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the recall states.

Consumers are advised to discard and not eat the recalled spinach products and to contact Fresh Express for a refund, which can also be obtained at the place of purchase, according to the Food and Drug Administration’s notice.

The recalled Fresh Express Spinach was distributed to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Virginia and North Carolina, while the recalled Publix Spinach was distributed to the aforementioned states and South Carolina and Tennessee.

Fresh Express said no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall and that none of its other products is affected.
