Chervon announces hedge trimmer recall due to laceration risk

Chervon announced a recall of almost 90,000 hedge trimmers, as they can activate unexpectedly, posing a laceration hazard.

The U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website published the recall June 1. It applies to about 85,000 EGO Power+ Model HT2410 Cordless Brushless Hedge Trimmers sold in the United States and about 4,000 sold in Canada. Chervon manufactured the affected hedge trimmers prior to March 30, 2019.

According to the recall, the rear switch trigger can fail to rebound after it is pressed, which can cause the unit to activate unexpectedly, posing a laceration hazard.

The company received 34 reports of the trimmers starting unexpectedly, including eight reports of lacerations requiring stitches, it says.

The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Immediately stop using Chervon hedge trimmer, recall advises

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled hedge trimmers and contact Chervon for a free repair of the rear trigger switch, the company says.

Chervon sold the recalled trimmers at home improvement stores, hardware stores and authorized dealers and distributors nationwide and online at acehardware.com, acmetools.com and homedepot.com from September 2017 through March 2020 for between $150 and $22, according to the hedge trimmer recall notice.

The hedge trimmers have a gray, black and green housing; a yellow, 24-inch dual-action steel blade; a black loop handle with a green switch trigger in front of the product housing; and a rear switch trigger underneath the rear handle. Only units with date codes from September 2017 through March 2019 are included in the recall. 

In other outdoor product recall news, Delta Enterprise Corp. in April issued a recall for its 2-in-1 outdoor kids’ swings because the swing seat restraint straps can break, leading to a fall hazard for children. The company received seven reports of straps breaking.
