Arctic Cat issued a recall for more than 16,000 of its 8000 and 9000 Series Snowmobiles over concerns their clutch drive could break, posing a laceration hazard.

The Arctic Cat snowmobiles recall involves all model year 2017-2021 Arctic Cat 8000 and 9000 series snowmobiles and certain model year 2022 Arctic Cat 8000 series snowmobiles.

Arctic Cat said a broken clutch on the recalled snowmobiles could allow fragments to escape the vehicle’s shielding and cause a laceration hazard.

The company advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled snowmobiles and contact Arctic Cat to schedule a free inspection and installation of an additional clutch guard, as well as a new primary clutch if it is found to be cracked.

Arctic Cat recall: More than 200 reports of clutches failing on snowmobiles

Arctic Cat said it has received more than 200 reports of clutches on the recalled snowmobiles failing — including six cases of fragments hitting consumers and four cases of minor foot and toe injuries.

The recalled snowmobiles were sold at Arctic Cat dealerships nationwide for between $8,000 and $22,000 from September 2016 through January 2024.

Consumers with more questions about the Arctic Cat recall can contact the company directly by telephone at 800-279-2281, by email or through its website.

More than 12,000 Arctic Cat snowmobiles in the U.S. and Canada were previously recalled in June 2023 over concerns their fuel dampener snap ring could become loose and leak fuel, posing a fire hazard.
