Aiper announced a recall for about 22,000 robotic pool vacuum cleaners as the battery can overheat, posing burn and fire risks.ย

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published the recall Aug. 24. It applies to Aiper Elite Pro cordless robotic pool vacuum cleaners with model no. GS100. Super sold about 22,000 cleaners in the United States, about 50 in Canada and about four in Mexico, the recall notice says.ย

When the charging cord is plugged into the device without the adapter or directly into the charging port on the machine, the battery can overheat and short circuit, posing burn and fire hazards, according to the pool vacuum cleaner recall notice.

Aiper says it received 17 reports of the recalled pool vacuums overheating, including one report of a minor burn to a consumerโ€™s fingertip, which did not require medical treatment.ย

Aiper is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Replacement vacuum to be sent to affected consumers, Aiper recall says

Aiper sold the recalled vacuums online at aiper.com, amazon.com, cocktailpool.com, factorypure.com, myrobotdirect.com, wellbots.com and uspoolsite.com from Jan. 2023 to May 2023 for $600 to $800.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled pool vacuums and contact Aiper to receive a free replacement with Aiperโ€™s Seagull Pro robotic pool cleaner, the recall states.

Aiper will provide a free return label for consumers to send the product back. Within seven days of receiving the recalled Elite Pro, Aiper will ship the replacement product, according to the recall notice.

Pool-related recalls are not uncommon. In May, Vijayli-US announced a recall for around 116 pool drain covers over concerns they fail to conform to entrapment protection standards set by the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act.ย
