A Nasal spray recall has been made over a yeast infection.

Beware of the cold remedy products being used during flu season. A brand of nasal spray has been recalled over a yeast contamination.

The company that makes the nasal spray, NDAL MFG INC, made a nationwide voluntary recall of ManukaGuard Allercleanse Nasal Spray after the yeast contamination was discovered, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Wednesday.

Nasal sprays are often used to treat cold and flu symptoms, cleaning the nasal passages of irritants and other environmental pollution.

NDAL MFG INC does not currently face legal action over the contaminated nasal sprays, but Top Class Actions tracks recalls because they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

According to the announcement, those who most frequently use the product including children, adults, and the elderly, are at high-risk of an adverse reaction that may require medical or surgical attention. Furthermore, the use of yeast-contaminated nasal sprays in immunosuppressed individuals may result in life threatening fungal infections.

As of the recall date, no adverse effects have been reported relating to the recalled product.

Consumers who purchased the ManukaGuard Allercleanse Nasal Spray via amazon.com, a distributor or a retail store that was packaged in a cardboard box with one nasal spray per box UPC 858631002128 are advised to stop using the product immediately and return to the place of purchase, discard the product or contact their doctor. The affected Allercleanse lot is lot # 2010045 and BB 10/2023 expiration date.

NDAL MFG INC has notified its distributors and customers by e-mail and telephone and has arranged for the return and replacement of all recalled products.

If you believe you have been adversely affected by the product, seek medical attention immediately. You can also notify the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program via an online form, phone or fax.

Consumers who have further questions regarding this recall can contact NDAL MFG INC by phone 1-800-916-1220 or e-mail address support@manukaguard.com, Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 4 pm PST.

NDAL MFG INC are not the first company to draw public attention over flu and cold products.

In 2018 cold and flu manufacturer Zicam paid $16 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that the products “are no more effective than a placebo” and “are not ‘clinically shown to shorten colds.’”

If you purchased Zicam Cold Remedy products from 2016 to the present, you may qualify to join a Zicam class action lawsuit investigation
