Class action settlements opened in September for consumers to make claims through October and beyond. 

The class action settlements resolve claims involving false advertising, data breaches and false reference pricing, among other things. 

A company may agree to a class action settlement to resolve claims without admitting fault and/or to garner good faith with consumers while avoiding litigation.

Oracle to pay $115M over claims it sold illegally collected personal info 

Oracle agreed to pay $115 million to end claims the information technology company illegally collected personal information from the internet and sold it to third parties for advertising. 

The class action settlement benefits consumers whose personal information Oracle collected or made available through ID Graph, Data Marketplace or another Oracle advertising product since Aug. 19, 2018.

Consumers who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 17, 2024. 

See Tickets pays $3.25M over 2023 data breach claims

See Tickets agreed to pay $3.25 million to resolve claims the international ticketing services company failed to protect consumer information during a 2023 data breach.

The class action settlement benefits consumers whose information the See Tickets data breach compromised in September 2023. 

Consumers who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 20, 2024. 

Hot Topic settles claims it advertised products with misleading discounts

Hot Topic agreed to a settlement to resolve claims the fast-fashion retailer violated California and Oregon law by advertising products with misleading discounts. 

The class action settlement benefits a class of California residents who purchased one or more products from Hot Topic’s website between March 15, 2019, and July 29, 2024, and a class of Oregon residents who purchased one or more products from Hot Topic’s website between Aug. 25, 2022, and July 29, 2024. 

Consumers who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 27, 2024. 

BuzzFeed to pay $9M over claims it shared user information with Facebook

BuzzFeed agreed to pay $9 million to end claims the website violated federal privacy laws by allegedly sharing user information with Facebook.

The class action settlement benefits BuzzFeed account holders or digital newsletter subscribers who accessed a video through a BuzzFeed website between May 16, 2021, and Nov. 10, 2023. 

Consumers who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 5, 2024. 

Peacock agrees to pay $3.7M to end claims it violated auto-renewal laws

Peacock agreed to pay $3.7 million to end claims the streaming service violated auto renewal laws in the state of California. 

The class action settlement benefits consumers with a valid California billing address whom Peacock charged for an automatically renewing subscription and who paid auto-renewal fees between Sept. 15, 2019, and Feb. 27, 2024. 

Consumers who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 13, 2024. 

College universities pay $284M over anticompetitive financial aid practice claims

College universities, such as Duke, Yale, Penn and multiple others, agreed to pay a combined $284 million to resolve claims they engaged in anticompetitive financial aid practices. 

The class action settlement benefits students who were enrolled in one or more defendants’  full-time undergraduate programs and were given some need-based financial aid that did not fully cover tuition, fees, room or board. Two class periods vary slightly, depending on the university the student attended. 

Individuals who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 17, 2024. 

Starkist, Lion Capital to pay $152.2M over canned tuna pricing claims

Starkist and Lion Capital agreed to pay $152.2 million to end claims they conspired with other tuna companies to raise and fix the price of canned tuna. 

The class action settlement benefits consumers from multiple states who indirectly purchased cans or pouches of tuna smaller than 40 ounces between June 1, 2011, and July 1, 2015.

Consumers who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 31, 2024. 

Visa, Mastercard to pay $197.5M over unlawful surcharges on ATM transactions

Visa and Mastercard agreed to pay $197.5 million to resolve claims the companies charged unlawful surcharges for ATM transactions. 

The class action settlement benefits either an individual or entity who paid an ATM access fee directly to JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, Bank of America or other banks that are members of Visa and/or Mastercard ATM networks between Oct. 1, 2007, and July 26, 2024, and who were not reimbursed for said fees. 

Those who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Jan. 22, 2025. 

Breyers pays $8.85M over false vanilla claims

Breyers agreed to pay $8.85 million to put an end to claims the ice cream company falsely advertised its vanilla ice cream contained real vanilla. 

The class action settlement benefits consumers who purchased any size of Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream between April 21, 2016, and Aug. 14, 2024.

Consumers who want to join the class action settlement must submit a valid claim form by Feb. 19, 2025. 

Jackson Hewitt pays $10.8M to end unfair no-poach agreement claims

Jackson Hewitt agreed to pay $10.8 million to end claims the assisted tax preparation company forced tax preparers into unfair no-poach agreements. 

The class action settlement benefits individuals who worked in a tax preparer position at a company-owned Jackson Hewitt location between Dec. 20, 2014, and July 3, 2024.

A valid claim form is not required to benefit from the class action settlement.
