WindsorONE exterior trim, manufactured by Windsor Surry Company, is made for wood-frame residential structures. The manufacturer places a heavy emphasis on its trim’s durability, prominently touting on its website a 30-year warranty and detailing the elements that purportedly make it a reliable, smart choice for construction.
However, some customers claim that WindsorONE exterior trim is not as durable and reliable as advertised.
Is WindsorONE Exterior Trim Defective?
Some customers who purchased WindsorONE for their homes say the trim deteriorates prematurely, reportedly in the form of cracking, discoloration, dry rot, and warping. Allegedly, the product should have been more rot and water resistant to live up to its advertisements.
Customers have claimed the following:
- The company used a wood susceptible to rot
- The company failed to treat the material with a preservative
- The company failed to use a water-resistant adhesive when making the trim
Some customers say the trim had to be replaced much sooner than it should have, based on marketing promises.
Has the Windsor Surry Company Compensated Customers?
Customers have claimed that the Windsor Surry Company has not sufficiently compensated them for the allegedly defective trim, even though they have notified the company of the problems. According to at least one purchaser, “complaints and concerns from customers, homeowners, builders, contractors, lumber yards, building supply stores, and others” have been ignored.
Windsor Surry Company has not made any changes to its trims and continues to use untreated radiata pine for the products, which some purchasers say is vulnerable to rot and decay.
A number of customers have also accused Windsor Surry Company of having no intention of providing warranty coverage.
Have Customers Fought Back?
Multiple lawsuits have been filed against the Windsor Surry Company, accusing it of knowing that its WindsorONE exterior trim was defective but continuing to sell it nonetheless.
Allegedly, the company advertised that WindsorONE products were superior to competitors because they were more durable. However, customers have claimed that they paid a premium price for the trim which turned out to be no better than other brands.
Plaintiffs who have filed WindsorONE defect lawsuits claim that they would never have purchased the exterior trim, or paid a premium for it, had they known it was defective and would not last as long as advertised.
Customers and contractors have also discussed the issues in online forums, noting that the type of pine used in the exterior trim should be treated, but isn’t, in the case of WindsorONE trim, according to contractortalk.com.
