According to a recent lawsuit regarding Windsor ONE trim, this trim board may not live up to its advertised durability and superiority and may actually be prone to premature deterioration and rot.
Windsor ONE Trim Lawsuit
According to plaintiff Robert T. of Portland, Ore., Windsor ONE trim board may be defective, and the Windsor ONE warranty may not cover the damage caused by the product’s defective nature.
In 2011, Robert purchased a home in Portland with an addition trimmed with Windsor ONE trim board. After a few years of owning the home, Robert says he noticed that large amounts of the trim board appeared to be deteriorating, splitting, warping, and rotting.
When Robert attempted to use the warranty that accompanies Windsor ONE products to get his trim board fixed or replaced, the company allegedly told him that his installation did not comply with the Windsor ONE installation instructions.
Additionally, the company allegedly informed him that as much of the damage was caused by wood decay, he was ineligible for the warranty, which does not cover decay. Robert claims that Windsor ONE has known for decades about the defective nature of this trim board, and that the company intentionally concealed this information from consumers.
Windsor ONE advertises their trim board as a defect-free type of trim suitable for exterior use. Additionally, the company claims that their trim board is more durable and lasts longer than other similar products. The company also charges a premium price for these products.
However, according to Robert’s Windsor ONE trim lawsuit, this trim board is commonly defective due to several factors, including a failure to use a rot resistant wood, a failure to use preservative to prevent wood rot, and failure to use waterproof wood adhesive.
About Windsor ONE
Windsor Mill was established in 1972 and has produced wood trim boards and mouldings for over 40 years. These products are finger-jointed, meaning that each trim board is made up of many shorter boards that are connected using finger joints and adhesive.
Windsor ONE uses untreated Radiata Pine from Australia, New Zealand, and South America in their trim board products.
Robert argues that this type of wood is not fit to be used as an exterior trim. This low cost wood is grown on plantations and has very little rot resistance, he says. Additionally, he claims the adhesive used in the finger-joints of the trim board is allegedly not waterproof, and is therefore unsuitable for exterior use.
Hundreds of thousands of consumers may have been affected by this allegedly defective Windsor ONE trim board. Property owners, contractors, builders, carpenters, subcontractors, and other building professionals may all have purchased this trim due to the advertised claims about the product’s superiority. Many contractors have posted complaints online regarding the quality of these products and warning others about the alleged defects.
If you have purchased Windsor ONE exterior trim or other Windsor ONE products that have prematurely deteriorated, you may be eligible to hire a qualified attorney and file a class action lawsuit against the company regarding their possibly inaccurate product claims.
This is not the only time that home construction products have led to class action lawsuits. Many contractors have experienced issues with window wood rot with products from companies like Lincoln Windows and Pella Corporation.
Robert’s Windsor ONE Trim Lawsuit is Case No: 3:17-cv-00918-AA, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Oregon, Portland Division.
