gotham steel non-stick panA class action lawsuit claims that E. Mishan & Sons Inc.’s Gotham Steel cooking pans are not non-stick, despite advertising to the contrary.

Carl Mack and Alec Gable say they each purchased pans made by the company specifically because they saw advertisements that the pans were non-stick.

Mack claims he relied on the packaging of the product and the TV advertisements to make his purchase, which both marketed the product as non-stick.

Allegedly, the commercials for the pan advertised that no butter or oil was required.

Mack says that he used the pans without oil or butter, consistent with advertisements for the product. However, food allegedly began sticking “severely” to the pan within a month of Mack’s purchase of it and he stopped using the pan.

Gable says he purchased two pans from the Gotham Steel website in 2018. Allegedly, he decided to purchase the pans because, like Mack, he saw advertisements showing that they were non-stick.

Gable claims that after two uses, he began cooking with butter and oil, but even the use of butter and oil did not prevent the food from sticking. Allegedly, the pans were “often caked with black burn marks” and Gable got rid of the pans after about a month of use.

The Gotham Steel non-stick pans class action lawsuit says that Gable and Mack’s experiences are common to many customers even though they used the pans as directed.

The Gotham Steel non-stick pan false advertising class action lawsuit says that E. Mishan & Sons Inc. knew or should have known that the pans were not non-stick as claimed, citing numbers customer complaints about the issue.

Allegedly, E. Mishan & Sons Inc. violated the New York General Business Law, which prohibits “deceptive acts or practices in the conduct of any business, trade, or commerce or in the furnishing of any service” in the state, and also prohibits false advertising.
The customers say that they were financially injured by E. Mishan & Sons Inc.’s misrepresentations of the Gotham Steel pans because had they been aware that the pans were not actually non-stick, they would not have purchased the pans or would not have paid as much as they did for them.

The non-stick pan class action lawsuit aims to hold the company liable for breach of express warranty, among other claims.

    1. Tiffany says:

I bought a Gotham sat about eight months ago. And almost all of them are Scratched and all of my food sticks to almost every single one that I have now. Even with using butter and oil. Very disappointed as they’re not cheap.

  2. Doug Pullman says:

We bought the over basket with drip tray to use in making fries as they advertize on tv and the box. any seasioning used on the fries burned to the basket and when you scrub with cloth (not a scour pad) after soaking overnight in soapy water, some comes off and some would come off with the gold coating also. this rack and pan was in a Gotham box Brand new when we bought it but no logo on either. We thought we got scammed so we bought another set but this time the logo was stamped in the pan.
This set was no better and have the same problems as the first set. Very pissed off I got taken twice by the same claims (shame on me). Have told my friends not to waste their money. JUNK and OVER CLAIMED.

  3. Patricia Deese says:

I purchased the big square sauce pan with lid and the 10″ frying pan almost 3 years ago. They didn’t stick at first, but after about 3 months, both pieces required lots of oil to cook anything. This is not acceptable! I do not clean them with soap or in the dishwasher, nor do I cook food in them in the oven. I have been very careful to use only plastic utensils. These were the most expensive cookware I have ever owned or could ever afford. Now I’m using my old stuff, it works better! Please include me in your class action suit.

  4. Vivian Backus says:

Spent about $120 for the cookware and the food never “slid off easily” as in the commercials, even using butter or oil to cook. Still, I kept using them as it was something I could live with. Eventually the food started to stick and the pots and pans were often caked with some burn marks; soaking worked to wash them off, but still that was not as advertised. A few months ago I noticed some small nicks in the coating and this morning, after I removed the hash browns from the pan, there was a gouge about 1/2 inch long. I’m now on hold for about 30 minutes so far trying to find out if they will honor their warranty. I have never used anything but plastic utensils with these pots and pans, although Gotham Steel said the product would handle metal, even an electric mixer.

  5. Monica S. says:

I have three pans. Everything sticks to them, including eggs. I’ve tried using oil to prevent sticking and that also doesn’t help. I can’t even sauté chicken because the bottom turns black within minutes.

  6. Florence says:

I bought 2 Gotham fry pans for my grand daughter for Christmas 2020. She just started to take the big sticker off the Bottom of the pans and it was pulling off the paint. I am so shocked I have my pans for a couple of years.

  7. Jonathan Smith says:

I’ve had such problems with these pans. It’s to the point that even if I coated a pan in oil and then cooked bacon in that pan, it would still find a way to stick.
I bought these pans for my family and a family member—what a giant waste of money.

  8. APRIL GOMEZ says:

At first the pans worked really good. Then the started to stick and burn my food. I have seasoned them too but that doesn’t seem to work either. What a waste of my money $149.99.

  9. Jane Stone says:

I bought the square frying pan and thought it was so amazing. I bought one for each of my 5 children claiming this was the best non stick pan. Needless to say just a few months later all of the 6 pans failed and the surface is horrible. Everything sticks no matter if you use butter or oil even at low temperatures.

  10. Terry says:

Their product is worthless and sticks within two uses!
