LGI Homes’ Shoddy Buildings Left Homeowners With Huge Bills, Proposed Class Action Claims

A “vanilla storm” turned into a nightmare for Washington homeowners when shoddy construction resulted in snow and rain falling inside homes as siding flew around the neighborhood, a proposed class action lawsuit alleges.

The class action lawsuit will be filed in the next 21 days by Casey Law on behalf of homeowners in Suntop Farms in Enumclaw, Washington, KIRO 7 reported.

LGI Homes violated the Consumer Protection Act, the lawsuit alleges, building poor-quality houses throughout the neighborhood. Casey Law notified LGI Homes of the lawsuit on Friday, April 9.

The class action follows a February storm where brand-new LGI Homes suffered serious damage, KIRO 7 reported. At least 24 houses built by LGI Homes had sliding and shingles ripped off by 51.4 miles per hour winds, despite being designed to withstand gusts of at least 150 miles per hour, according to an inspector hired by Casey Law.

Snow and rain was also able to enter some homes due the damage, leaving homeowners facing leaks and water damage. One homeowner told KIRO 7 the situation was frustrating.

“We (have a) brand-new baby just born two weeks ago. My wife, my mother, my teenage daughter is there. It’s very heartbreaking to know my family is not in a house that’s safe.”

Many of the new houses damaged in the storm are still under warranty, but attorney Chris Casey, who is representing the homeowners, said that LGI Homes claimed the storm was an act of God and was refusing to remedy the situation.

“If it happened on one or two homes, that’s a bad day. But it happened on 24 homes. That’s more than a bad day. That’s clearly cutting corners,” he told KIRO 7.

Casey said that 40 people had signed up to be part of the class-action lawsuit, but expected many more homeowners to join as more building defects were discovered. Casey Law attorneys expected that all 288 homes in the neighborhood could face building defects.

Inspector William Martin was hired by the law firm to look into LGI Homes’ construction practices, and he said that of the 10 homes he had reviewed, all suffered from improper installations. The repairs are estimated to cost $140,000-$160,000 per home, according to KIRO 7.

Lawsuits over shoddy building materials aren’t new. In July 2020, the homeowners’ association at Martinique at the Oasis in Florida filed a lawsuit against Lennar Homes in the Miami-Dade Circuit Court, alleging shoddy construction in the South Florida community, according to Law.com. Attorneys for the community said these defects posed a danger to residents.

And in late-2019, a New Hampshire homeowner filed a class action lawsuit, claiming that the WindsorONE trim installed on his house is poorly made and prone to rotting. Lead Plaintiff Brian Begley said that the siding manufactured by the defendant knowingly used unsuitable, untreated wood for the product, while misrepresenting their siding in marketing and advertising materials.

We just discovered mold in the upper bedroom, there seems to be a slow leak from the roof that caused the mold. We also had an issue with our breaker box getting filled with water in the garage. We paid out of pocket for the repairs.
We can use help getting LGI to pay and make necessary repairs! The home was purchased in 2017, still have nails coming through in some rooms.

My house was built in 2022, I signed my, what I thought would be my forever home papers on 09/15/2022. Within 6 months my laminate flooring was bulking, and they had to replace it in the kitchen already. Now most of my floor is separating and I am going to have to fix/change my flooring 3 years in?? Really?? My granite countertops were falling from the wall because they weren’t attached to a stud in the wall which it still is not, and it still is falling and all I get are excuses. My home keeps blowing breakers because they did not put big enough breakers in my house to hold what is in it. I have an outlet that the dryer is plugged into that sparked a fire. My house is literally a spark waiting to happen due to LGI cutting corners. They put the breaker box at the front of the garage, sheet rocked the garage, and the basement (which is unfinished) with no electrical outlets. I have to pay someone to run conduit from the garage to the basement with wiring in it take the sheetrock down to run electrical throughout my basement and up the breakers in my fuse box. My windows have already broken in the master bedroom and one of the spare rooms because they were put in wrong and not level. They made me wait 4-5 months to replace them during the coldest part of the winter because they didn’t pay the bill for the windows (that was right out of the window repair guys mouth). I have asked them to please come numerous times to check why in the winter the two rooms that are over the garage are 10-15 degrees colder and 10-15 hotter in the summer. I have asked if they are insulted properly, they just blow me off. I have to have a separate space heater in our rooms in the winter which then causes me to have higher electric bills. They tell me that it’s not their problem. Both of my tubs were broken when I moved in but because I didn’t realize it during the walk through, they don’t care. They had an overweight scared of heights painter that did my home, and he did a horrible job. there is mud and paint all over my bathrooms and you can see at the peaks in my home where he was too scared to use the proper ladder to go high up and fix the items I asked for. I spoke with the building manager Cody, and he even stated that at what point do you just give up?? Cody was an amazing manager, but he couldn’t take all the mess up’s that he was constantly in charge of and the unsatisfied customers that he went back to his old job of block laying. Here I am now 04/07/2025 and I have a truss issue. In my spare bedroom it feels like my floor is falling out and the new POS manager Randy Hawkins tells me that this seems to be an ongoing problem??? Really, so his exact words were “the last lady isn’t worried about resale so she is allowing us to come in and pull the carpet back and just add some padding to level it, so it goes slightly up and everything will look ok.” Well, I am concerned not only about trying to sell my home and it passes inspection, but my house now just slowly starting to fall apart (collapse) or let alone start on fire due to an electrical issue.

I could go on and on about so many issues on how I was sold on the wrong property line and Randy told me that it happens all the time and he will just have the irrigation company just come move my sprinklers (that was today’s argument). He told me that it’s my issue again that I paid to water someone else property and maintain it, fertilize it etc. He said he don’t get paid to argue with me about what is my property and what it isn’t. It doesn’t matter that my sprinkler systems went all the way over on the undeveloped property and you were told it was yours. Yep, just another POS LGI employee.

We bought our LGI Home in 2017. During the first big rain storm we noticed a leak behind the siding in our garage. We submitted a repair request. They came and fixed. But now every time there a big rain storm it leaks and we are on the hook to get it repaired and it’s just unfair that it was not corrected properly when first bought the home.

A few days ago my camera captured a tile weighing about 8 pounds falling to the ground. I checked out a few homes in my area and noticed the roof tiles look like they are hanging on for dear life. Do I have any options? Tuscano Sundance Community Phoenix Az 85043
