Jerome's leather furniture

Consumers have landed a $425,000 settlement in a Jerome’s bonded leather furniture class action lawsuit alleging that leather furniture sold by the company cracks and peels within a year of purchase.

Class Members include those who, between Dec. 27, 2017 and Feb. 7, 2020, purchased leather furniture from Jerome’s. In order to remain a Class Member, consumers must not have received a full refund on the furniture.

Lead plaintiff Kushroo Khavarian alleged in the Jerome’s bonded leather furniture class action lawsuit filed in 2015 that the leather on the furnishings he purchased began to peel and crack within a year. Bonded leather is made from left-over pieces of hide that are blended together to make furniture covering.

Khavarian said that he purchased two bonded leather recliners from the company; however, the furniture did not even last a year before the leather cracked. The plaintiff said that other consumers complained of this problem as well and he sought to represent a Class of consumers who purchased bonded leather furniture from Jerome’s.

According to the Jerome’s bonded leather furniture class action lawsuit, the furniture was unfit for sale, but Jerome’s sold the furniture anyway. The plaintiff accused the company of violating federal warranty law and obtaining unjust enrichment by selling the defective products to unwitting consumers.

Jerome’s does not admit to any wrongdoing, but has agreed to pay $425,000 to settle the class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, Class Members can claim partial refunds through gift cards to Jerome’s. The gift cards do not expire and can be redeemed for cash at the retailer.

Class Members who can establish that the bonded leather furniture they purchased from Jerome’s cracked or peeled after normal use can claim a 12 percent refund of the purchase price of the furniture.

Class Members can submit a photograph or written statement describing the damage. Class Members without proof that the furniture cracked and peeled can claim a five percent refund.

To make a claim in the Jerome’s bonded leather furniture class action lawsuit, Class Members must complete and submit a claim form by Feb. 7, 2020. Class Members who received notice of the settlement agreement can submit a claim form online with the claim number of PIN provided on the notice. Class Members who do not have this information can print and mail a claim form to the settlement administrator.
