The U.S. food safety watchdog issued a public health alert for Never Any! brand ham and cheese lunch kits as they come with a cookie that may contain undeclared peanuts.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) published the alert July 19. It applies to Never Any! brand ready-to-eat “uncured ham and cheese” lunch kits with a use-by date of Sept. 18, 2023. 

According to the alert, the kits come with chocolate chip cookies that may contain peanuts, a known allergen that is not declared on the finished product label. 

“FSIS is issuing this public health alert to ensure that consumers with an allergy to peanuts are aware that this product should not be consumed,” the alert says. 

The company did not issue a recall because the products are no longer available for purchase, the service says.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions after consuming the products, the FSIS alert says. Never Any! is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Supplier alerted manufacturer to presence of peanut residue, lunch kits alert says

Never Any! discovered the problem when its chocolate chip cookie supplier notified it that the cookies may contain peanut residue, the ham and cheese lunch kits alert states.

The company shipped the kits to retail locations nationwide. FSIS says it is concerned some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators. 

“Consumers with a peanut allergy who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” the alert states. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

Ham and cheese products have faced recalls in the past. In 2022, Kraft Heinz Foods Company recalled about 2,400 pounds of ready-to-eat ham and cheese loaf products due to possible cross-contamination with under-processed products.
