Apple has now stopped the sale or download of vaping apps due to recent news stories and concerns about e-liquid health hazards.E-liquid health hazards have been published in numerous news stories and investigations in light of the people who developed lung and other health problems after vaping. Apple says that in response to this vaping health crisis, they have chosen to remove all vaping related apps from their app store.

Even though vaping is a popular activity among teenagers and even older users, the fact that the products are relatively new to the market and have not been regulated or studied for a long time poses problems and concerns.

Vaping Raises Concerns from Parents and Government Agencies

Some parents even took legal action against vaping pod and device makers, claiming that the companies were targeting teen users. Although many of the vaping companies took the initial stance that vaping devices were intended for adults and often were used as a transition from cigarettes, new teen users could first get hooked on nicotine from vaping devices.

Government investigations have been exploring e-liquid health hazards to better understand the reasons why so many people have developed seizures or come down with unexplained illnesses after using a variety of vaping products.

Apple Takes Action in Response to Health Crisis

Apple stated that warnings from health experts about e-liquid health hazards were the primary reason they elected to remove vaping apps from the app store.

The company said that the use of e-cigarettes and vaping products and associated warnings from health experts constitutes a youth epidemic as well as a public health crisis. The company recently stated that any apps linked to vaping are no longer able to download. New vaping apps could not be added to the platform as of June and Apple has never allowed the sale of vaping cartridges or e-cigarette refills on their platform.

Games and companion apps associated with vaping that allow users to control things like heating or the lighting on vaping devices were removed in the clean sweep and a total of 181 applications were affected. According to the company, applications that were already downloaded by users will remain usable.

At least 42 people have suffered fatal lung injuries related to vaping. Others have reported concerns, such as seizures, and many parents have taken a stand against the high levels of nicotine found in these vaping products.

The surgeon general of the United States already declared youth vaping a public health epidemic. Public health and regulatory agencies in the United States are currently exploring different public-health-related problems connected to vaping including lung injuries, exploding e-cigarettes, and seizures.

As of August 2019, the FDA had reportedly received over 125 reports of neurological symptoms or seizures by vaping product users. The investigation from that agency began in April 2019 after three different cases involving use of JUUL pods and patient seizures were identified.

It is currently believed that the lung injuries, of which there are over 2,000 probable cases across 49 states, D.C. and the Virgin Islands, is a distinct issue from the problems reported with seizures. If you or someone you know has developed vaping related injuries, consider scheduling a consultation with an attorney.
