Many consumers of top-loading clothes washers allege early development of Samsung washing machine rust on the drum, impairing the machines’ performance and leaving stains on clothes.
A particular customer that purchased a top-loading washing machine in 2013 filed a class action lawsuit that claimed her appliance developed Samsung washing machine rust evident on the drum interior within one year of purchase.
Within four years, she claims, the machine was so deteriorated, she was forced to go to a laundry facility to care for her clothing and household linens.
According to the lawsuit, the complainant states that she contacted the manufacturer several times seeking help with the Samsung washing machine rust problem.
Several customer service representatives and visiting repair technicians claimed, according to her report, that the Samsung washing machine rust was merely a cosmetic issue and not to blame for stains on clothing and other items.
In November 2017, the Samsung Company issued a voluntary recall of some of their top-loading washing machines manufactured between March 2011 and October 2016, yet this recall did not address the rust issue. The company says that the washing machine drum tends to get off-kilter during the spin cycle and sometimes separates from the top of the unit.
Reports of Samsung Washing Machine Rust
Several other consumers have come forward complaining of the early rusting of their appliance drum and purportedly received the same lack of acknowledgement by the company and contracted repair technicians. One such customer sought help by drawing attention to the problem through the local media.
In an online article by NBC 7 San Diego, a mother that resides with her family in Vista, Calif. stated that six months after the purchase of a new top-loading Samsung washing machine, rust marks started showing up on their clothes. Lindsay H. admits that at first, she had no idea what the source of the strange stains were.
According to the online article, it took Lindsay’s husband and herself closely examining the inside of the drum with a mirror to locate the rust on the underside interior. She says she and her family tolerated the problem in the face of Samsung’s resistance and attempts to categorize her complaint as cosmetic until she washed bedding for expected guests and those were ruined.
After Lindsay contacted the local NBC affiliate station, she was finally able to get some resolution. The local media contacted the Samsung Co. on her behalf and negotiated a satisfactory conclusion to an unsatisfactory consumer experience. She received approximately $500 toward the purchase of a new washing machine from the manufacturer.
If you made a purchase of a top-loading Samsung washing machine between March 2011 and October 2016 which developed drum rust early, you may qualify to participate in a class action lawsuit investigation of this purported problem. Inclusion may result in funds to replace the malfunctioning machine or reimburse for costly repairs.
