Audi owners and lessees may be eligible to multiple benefits under a class action settlement agreement resolving complaints about the vehicles’ electric coolant pumps.

Any person or entity who purchased or leased a Class Vehicle imported and distributed by Volkswagen Group of America Inc. for sale or lease in the United States and Puerto Rico is part of the Class.

The Class Vehicles are:

  • Certain 2013-2016 model year Audi A4 Sedans & Allroads
  • Certain 2013-2017 model year Audi A5 Sedans & Cabriolets
  • Certain 2013-2017 model year Audi Q5s
  • Certain 2012-2015 model year Audi A6s

Class Members should use the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) lookup tool on the settlement website to confirm whether their vehicle is considered a Class Vehicle.

A class action lawsuit alleged Audi’s recall of the vehicles with the defective electric coolant pumps did not sufficiently compensate drivers because the company did not provide vehicles for them to use during the recall.

Volkswagen Group of America has denied all allegations of wrongdoing. Both sides have agreed to a settlement in order to avoid ongoing litigation.

Class Members are not required to take any action to remain in the Class.

Without filing a claim, Class Members may be eligible for a free warranty extension to cover the cost of repair or replacement of a failed turbocharger by an authorized Audi dealer.

The warranty extension, which went into effect April 12, 2021, does not apply to Electric (After-Run) Coolant Pumps — it applies only to the turbocharger and any parts and labor necessary for the repair or replacement of the malfunctioning turbocharger.

The length of the warranty extension will vary for each Class Vehicle, depending on whether, and when, any of the following campaigns related to the coolant pumps was performed on the vehicle:

  • Recall 19M1: Software Update re Electric (After-Run) Coolant Pump
  • Recall 19O2: Replacement of Electric (After-Run) Coolant Pump
  • Recall 19N4: Disconnection of Electric (After-Run) Coolant Pump
  • Service Action 19N8: Replacement of Electric (After-Run) Coolant Pump

There is no mileage limitation on the turbocharger warranty extension.

More information on the recalls and their relevant time periods is available here.

Class Members may file claim forms in order to take advantage of other benefits provided by the settlement agreement:

  • Reimbursement for certain out-of-pocket expenses paid for past replacement or repair of Electric (After-Run) Coolant Pumps
  • Reimbursement for rental car expenses incurred during the time Recall 1902 was being performed on their Class Vehicle

Separate claim forms and supporting documentation must be filed for each Class Vehicle for which the Class Member is seeking reimbursement.

To submit a claim for reimbursement, Class Members must fully complete, sign, and date a Repair/Replacement Reimbursement Claim Form and/or a Rental Car Expense Reimbursement Claim Form, and mail it and the supporting documentation to the claims administrator.

A final hearing is set for June 14, 2021.

Class Members must submit objections or requests to be excluded from the settlement by May 12, 2021.

Claims must be postmarked no later than June 26, 2021.
