fedex self pay kiosk credit card receipt

A class action settlement has been reached in a lawsuit that alleges that FedEx Office and Print Services violated federal law by displaying more than the last five digits of a credit or debit card on receipts printed out from self-service kiosks.

If you paid with a debit or credit card at a FedEx Office Self-Service Express Pay kiosk between Jan. 21, 2017 and Aug. 23, 2017, you could get a $10 or $25 stored value card from this settlement.

The FedEx class action lawsuit claims that plaintiffs Robert Cohen and Ashley Beltran visited FedEx Office locations and made purchases by using self-service kiosks. The receipts they received reportedly contained both the first two and last four digits of their credit card numbers.

According to the FedEx class action lawsuit, the amount of information displayed on the FedEx receipt violates the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act. FACTA is a federal law that prohibits businesses from printing too much information on credit card receipts. The law seeks to prevent consumers from being at risk of credit card fraud or identity theft.

The FedEx class action lawsuit states that because more than the last five digits of the credit card number were displayed on the kiosk receipts, the plaintiffs’ privacy was unlawfully exposed.

In addition, the FedEx receipt class action lawsuit claimed that FedEx “deliberately, willfully, intentionally, recklessly, and negligently violated FACTA” because the company has faced previous lawsuits alleging similar claims.

Under the terms of the FedEx class action settlement, FedEx will provide Class Members with either a $10 or $25 stored value card that can be used for self-service transactions including:

  • Black and White Copies
  • Color Copies
  • Printing
  • Facsimiles
  • Computer Rentals
  • Digital Photo Stations

Class Members are limited to one FedEx stored value card per household and the cards will expire six months after they are issued.

FedEx has agreed to pay $510,00 to cover attorneys’ fees and litigation costs, as well as $5,000 to each named plaintiff for their efforts in prosecuting the case.

The class action settlement does not require FedEx to make an admission or concession that the company violated any law. Both parties agreed to the FedEx receipt class action settlement in order to avoid the cost and risk of further litigation.

Class Members who want to object to the settlement or ask to be excluded from its terms, must do so no later than March 8, 2019.
