Windex Settlement Update:
- Readers reported this settlement paying out $5.80 as of May 23, 2022.
- Congratulations to everyone who filed a claim and got PAID!
Certain consumers who purchased Windex glass cleaner may be eligible to claim up to $10 without proof of purchase thanks to a $1.3 million Windex toxic ingredients class action settlement resolving claims of false advertising.
The Class is made up of anyone who resided in the United States and purchased in the United States Windex® Original Glass Cleaner, Windex Vinegar Glass Cleaner, Windex Ammonia-Free Glass Cleaner, or Windex Multi-Surface Glass Cleaner labeled “non-toxic” from Jan. 1, 2019, to July 9, 2021, for use and not for resale.
The plaintiff in a class action lawsuit alleged product maker S.C. Johnson & Son Inc. made claims that the Windex glass cleaners were “non-toxic” when the products actually contain chemicals that can cause health problems in those exposed to them.
Windex glass cleaners, widely available online and at retailers such as Walmart and Target, are just some of the products sold under the Windex brand. Other Windex cleaners include multi-surface cleaners, electronics wipes, and outdoor cleaning kits.
Class Members who submit a claim form with proof of purchase (itemized store receipts, loyalty/membership card print-outs, non-identical original UPC codes, and pictures of non-identical UPC codes) may seek up to $1 for each covered product purchased.
Class Members who submit a claim form without acceptable proof of purchase may seek reimbursement of $1 for up to 10 products purchased.
A Class Member may file a claim form both with and without proof of purchase. These types of claims will be subject to the requirements and recovery amounts allowed for each type of claim.
Each claimant’s award will be reduced or increased proportionately depending on the amount of valid claims filed, fees, and other expenses.
A final approval hearing will take place Dec. 7, 2021.
Those who wish to object to the settlement must do so by Nov. 12, 2021.
Anyone who would like to request to be excluded from the settlement must file an exclusion form by Oct. 29, 2021.
The deadline to file a claim is also Oct. 29, 2021.
