Uber Drivers Data Breach Settlement

UPDATE:

• The settlement administrator has sent emails to drivers for whom mailing addresses are unavailable. 
• Address information must be updated on the settlement website no later than March 30, 2022.

Uber drivers in several states may be eligible to benefit from a settlement between the company and the states’ attorneys general over a 2016 data breach.

The Uber drivers eligible to receive a payment in the settlement are those from participating states — Alaska, Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont, and Washington — who had their driver’s license numbers accessed during the data breach. 

Nevada also is providing redress to Uber drivers but is not participating in this multistate process, according to the settlement website. Nevada drivers may email evelazquez@ag.nv.gov or call 775-684-1168 for more information.

Individuals are eligible to take part in the Uber drivers settlement even if they are no longer driving for Uber, as long as the settlement administrator confirms their driver’s license was accessed during the breach and that they were living in one of the participating states.

Twenty-two state attorneys general announced Sept. 26, 2018, that they had concluded an investigation into the Uber breach and entered a final judgment and consent decree against the company.

Uber operates in the United States and internationally, offering ride-hailing and food-delivery services.

Those who are affected by the Uber drivers settlement will receive payments via PayPal unless a valid email address is not available or if they choose to have a check mailed to them.

Each driver’s settlement payment will be stated in their notification letter.

Uber drivers who believe they may be eligible to receive a payment but did not receive a notice should email their full name, email address, postal mailing address, and state in which they drove for Uber to info@UberDriversStateAGSettlement.com by Oct. 28, 2021.

The deadline to respond to the Uber drivers settlement notice of eligibility is Oct. 28, 2021.
