Ring agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it failed to disclose to customers that they must purchase a “Protect Plan” to access certain features on its video doorbell and security camera products.
The Ring class action settlement benefits consumers who purchased a Ring Video Doorbell 2, Ring Video Doorbell 3, Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus, Ring Video Doorbell Pro Wired, Ring Video Doorbell Elite, Floodlight Cam or Peephole Cam at a brick-and-mortar store in California before the applicable deadlines.
Consumers are not eligible for the settlement if they purchased the products while having an existing Ring Protect Plan set up for more than 30 days at the time of purchase.
According to the Ring Protect Plan class action lawsuit, Ring failed to disclose that customers must purchase a “Protect Plan” to access features, such as recording, playback and viewing snapshots. The plaintiffs claim they would not have purchased Ring products if they had known that these features would require an additional monthly fee.
Ring is a home security company that offers video doorbells, security cameras and other products.
Ring has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Ring class action settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the number of products they purchased. Consumers who purchased one product can receive $3, those who purchased two products can receive $6 and those who purchased three or more products can receive $9.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is May 22, 2025.
The final approval hearing for the Ring Protect Plan class action lawsuit settlement is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
To receive a settlement payment, class members must submit a valid claim form by May 22, 2025.
